Job Description

Job Summary

The Buyer is responsible for developing and executing effective sourcing, bidding, negotiation, and pricing strategies to secure the best value for the plant. This role ensures on-time delivery to support program timelines and maximize plant profitability.

Responsibilities include supplier selection and procurement activities for parts, steel, equipment, and MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations). The Buyer manages purchase requisitions and purchase orders, tracks order completion, and ensures vendor invoices are processed. This role serves as a key contact for suppliers, addressing inquiries and providing required documentation.

The Buyer also identifies cost-saving opportunities, supports reporting through Ariba, and maintains strong collaboration with internal teams and suppliers. A strong understanding of manufacturing and supply chain principles is required.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process purchase requisitions, obtain quotes, negotiate pricing and terms, and recommend suppliers based on cost, quality, and delivery
  • Issue and manage purchase orders and amendments for MRO materials and services
  • Prepare RFQs and utilize Ariba to conduct competitive bidding
  • Execute contracts, service agreements, and purchase orders with suppliers
  • Communicate with suppliers regarding requirements, changes, and delivery schedules
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, logistics, and inventory management practices
  • Collaborate with buyers across locations to support strategic sourcing initiatives
  • Track and report on open and closed purchase orders weekly
  • Support inventory management, including maintaining appropriate material levels
  • Identify and implement cost-savings initiatives and report monthly progress
  • Prepare presentations on open issues and corrective action plans
  • Support special projects and perform additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships
  • Knowledge of procurement compliance, policies, and procedures
  • Experience with inventory management, tool crib operations, and cost control
  • Understanding of plant material flow and cost-saving opportunities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of purchasing and basic accounting processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with SAP and Ariba preferred
  • Basic cost analysis and market research skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage tasks independently
  • Team-oriented with strong business judgment
  • Self-motivated with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Willingness to travel as needed
