Senior Manager, Security Engineering Operations
Job Description
Shape the operational heartbeat of Security Engineering
Security Engineering builds and runs the platforms, tools, and services that protect our organisation and services customers rely on every day. As our Senior Manger, Security Engineering Operations, you’ll ensure those capabilities operate detailed at scale — resilient, measurable, and continuously improving.
This is a high‑impact leadership role at the intersection of cyber security, technology operations, and enterprise risk. You will own the operational performance of Security Engineering’s products and services, drive maturity through automation and data‑driven insights, and act as a trusted partner across cyber, technology, and the wider business.
If you thrive by bringing structure to complexity, lead critically important operations, and turning incidents and risks into long‑term improvements — this role offers real scope to shape outcomes.
What you’ll do
Own and run Security Engineering operations
Lead the day‑to‑day operational running of all Security Engineering–delivered products and services.
Ensure services are resilient, well‑supported, and consistently meet customer expectations.
Oversee 24x7x365 support, ensuring robust on‑call and escalation models are effective and sustainable.
Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Improve operational processes and practices, embedding repeatability, clarity, and accountability.
Define and implement relevant metrics to demonstrate performance, trends, and outcomes over time.
Identify and prioritise opportunities where automation and AI can improve efficiency, quality, and resilience.
Lead incident, problem, and resilience management
Own incident management processes, ensuring rapid, well‑coordinated response and clear communication.
Drive problem management, ensuring root causes are addressed and lessons learned translate into lasting improvements.
Coordinate DR and BCP activities and plans, including impact assessments and readiness
Provide insight, assurance, and governance for capbilities and controls
Produce operational reporting that clearly communicates service quality, emerging risks, and systemic issues — from operational forums through to senior leadership.
Ensure risks are accurately identified, documented, and handled, with pragmatic action plans.
Lead risk reporting for Security Engineering–owned controls into Group governance forums.
Lead and maintain Group security standards owned by Security Engineering.
Operate and maintain the Security Engineering service catalogue as a live operational artefact, ensuring services have clear support models, on‑call ownership, escalation paths, SLAs/SLOs, and accurate documentation to enable effective 24x7x365 operations. Relevant service level measures are defined and reported.
Partner, influence, and connect
Run business as usual vendor contract renewals, ensuring services remain fit for purpose. Ensure all third-party risk management actions are completed.
Establish and run feedback and improvement forums between Security Engineering and other cyber teams.
Expand collaboration over time with key interested parties outside of cyber, strengthening alignment and shared outcomes.
Ensuring clear, consistent communication to business areas for updates and changes Security Engineering is deploying and/or needs support with. Help share success and improvements realised.
Inspire change through influence, credibility, and data, not just authority.
What you’ll bring
Experience & knowledge
Strong understanding of security technologies, threat landscapes, and security frameworks.
Demonstrated customer focus and emotional intelligence, with the ability to understand the impact on customers and partners, balancing risk, resilience, and usability to deliver positive outcomes.
Solid grounding in foundational technologies, including cloud platforms and modern engineering practices.
Significant experience running critically important operations across geographically dispersed teams.
Brings an operations‑led, product mentality, viewing security engineering services as live, critical capabilities with clear ownership, service models, SLAs, operational metrics, with continuous improvement throughout their lifecycle
Proven leadership in incident and problem management within complex, high‑availability environments.
Experienced in defining and maintaining a clear service catalogue, establishing relevant SLAs and SLOs that reflect service criticality, customer expectations, and operational realities, with performance actively measured and reviewed.
Hands‑on experience with process mapping and operational improvement, prioritising investment for maximum impact.
Insight & communication
Expertise in operational reporting and metric design, translating data into clear, actionable insight.
Confidence producing information appropriately for different audiences — from engineers to senior executives and board‑level forums.
Ability to identify themes, connect signals, and focus attention where it matters most.
Leadership style
A collaborative leader who drives change through influence and trusted relationships.
Comfortable operating in ambiguity, balancing short‑term operational needs with long‑term strategic improvement.
Naturally curious, continuously seeking better ways of working.
Why this role matters
Security Engineering’s services underpin the trust placed in our organisation every day. This role gives you the opportunity to define how “good” looks operationally, to modernise how we run security services, and to ensure resilience at enterprise scale.
You’ll have visibility, influence, and the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on how Security Engineering operates — today and into the future.
