Overview
SRI Education is committed to supporting research, evaluation, and the implementation of equitable and effective practices in K–16 education. We are seeking to hire a Research Assistant who will work as a team member on multiple projects relating to teacher preparation and development, language and literacy education, school and systems reform, and college and career pathways. SRI Education (https://www.sri.com/research-development/education-learning), a division of SRI International, is helping federal and state agencies, school districts, major foundations, nonprofit organizations, and international and commercial clients tackle some of the most complex issues in education to help students succeed. We do this by conducting high-quality research, supporting use of data and evidence, helping to strengthen state and local systems, and developing tools that improve teaching and accelerate and deepen learning. Our work covers a range of topics: early learning and development, disability and inclusion, supporting multilingual learners, student behavior and well-being, teaching quality, digital learning, STEM and computer science, language and literacy, and college and career pathways.
Responsibilities
- Conducting literature, website, document, and policy reviews
- Coordinating, scheduling, and monitoring data collection activities, such as survey administration, observations, and interviews
- Conducting classroom observations
- Organizing and managing data, including database construction and maintenance
- Analyzing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data
- Preparing exhibits, reports, and presentations of research findings appropriate for non-academic, academic, and policy audiences
- Preparing district research applications and Institutional Review Board (IRB) packages
- Growing professionally and developing new skills through ongoing project-embedded professional development opportunities
Qualifications

- Demonstrated interest in improving education for all students
- Demonstrated analytic skills, critical thinking skills, curiosity and academic success
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences field
- Ability to travel 5-6 times per year for school site visits within the US; many visits will be for 4-5 days each
- Some research experience involving qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies/statistics (e.g., thesis, research assistantship, research lab)
- Research, professional, or volunteer experience in or with the US public K–12 education system (e.g., teacher, tutor, para-professional or teacher's aide, after-school provider)
- Capacity to support multiple projects simultaneously and change focus as priorities shift through use of strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and relational databases
- Good people skills, ability to work on teams, and a desire to learn
- Ability to communicate clearly, including strong writing skills
The salary range is: $44,464-$73,640. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
