Job Summary

The Digital & Data team is leading an internal effort to digitally transform and revolutionize every aspect of Black & Veatch. Our goal is to accelerate the company’s technology and data capabilities, propelling Black & Veatch into the next century of digital innovation and success. 
 
We are seeking a Senior Data Scientist who will partner with digital product teams and business stakeholders to design, build, and deliver durable, differentiating analytical and AI models using Black & Veatch data as the catalyst. This role focuses on production-ready models that drive measurable business outcomes across operations, safety, project delivery, finance, and other enterprise domains. 

Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover patterns, correlations, and insights within large and complex datasets. 

    • Design and develop advanced predictive, prescriptive, and optimization models to address complex business problems. 

    • Lead initiatives in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and advanced analytics. 

    • Develop, validate, and productionize statistical and machine learning models that support enterprise decision-making. 

    • Partner with digital product teams to embed models into applications, workflows, and decision platforms. #LI-IB2

Acts in capacity of a "lead person." Does not have management responsibility for the people to whom they provide work direction.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field; Master’s degree preferred. 
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in data science, advanced analytics, or applied machine learning. 
  • Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end model development from problem framing through deployment. 
  • Strong experience with cloud-based data and AI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Azure). 
  • Advanced proficiency in Python (or R) and strong experience with Pandas, NumPy, SQL, and machine learning libraries. 
  • Deep understanding of statistical methods and machine learning techniques. 
  • Proven ability to partner with business and digital teams to translate ambiguous problems into analytical solutions. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience operationalizing models using MLOps / ModelOps practices, including CI/CD, monitoring, and retraining strategies. 
  • Experience working within digital product teams or product operating models. 
  • Experience with Azure AI Foundry or comparable enterprise AI platforms (e.g., Databricks ML, SageMaker, Vertex AI). 
  • Familiarity with data and model governance, including lineage, reproducibility, and responsible AI practices. 
  • Experience mentoring junior data scientists or serving as a technical lead. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex analytical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated delivery of durable, reusable analytical and AI assets.
