The Packaging Designer is a key contributor to Tyson Foods’ Enterprise Growth team, responsible for translating brand strategy, consumer insight, and product truth into iconic, shelf‑disruptive packaging across Tyson’s portfolio of market‑leading brands. This role partners closely with Brand Marketing, Business Units, R&D, Packaging Engineering, and external agencies to deliver packaging solutions that build brand equity, drive consumer preference, and perform commercially at retail and in digital environments.
As a hands-on designer, this role balances creativity with rigor, bringing strong conceptual thinking while ensuring flawless execution from initial concept through final production. The Packaging Designer plays a critical role in shaping how consumers experience Tyson Foods’ brands at the moment of choice.
Key Responsibilities
Brand Design & Creative Excellence
- Develop compelling packaging design solutions across primary and secondary packaging, including innovation launches, line extensions, renovations, and limited-time offers.
- Translate brand positioning, storytelling frameworks, and consumer insights into visually distinctive, ownable design systems.
- Ensure packaging designs are both emotionally engaging and strategically grounded, driving stand-out on shelf and in digital commerce environments.
- Apply a strong design point of view while working within established brand frameworks and evolving them thoughtfully over time.
End-to-End Packaging Execution
- Own packaging design development from concept through final production, ensuring creative integrity, feasibility, and on-time delivery.
- Partner with R&D, Packaging Engineering, and Operations to ensure seamless execution across materials, structures, and production constraints.
- Review and approve dielines, artwork proofs, color separations, and final mechanicals with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Attend press checks and production reviews to ensure final outputs meet brand, quality, and design standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence
- Collaborate closely with Brand Marketing, Innovation, and beyond to align packaging with broader campaign and launch strategies.
- Work alongside external agencies and vendors to ensure alignment on design intent, timelines, and production requirements.
- Participate in photoshoots to ensure product form, flavor cues, and appetite appeal are captured accurately and compellingly.
- Communicate design rationale clearly and confidently to partners and stakeholders.
Strategic Input & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct trend, category, and competitive audits to inform packaging design strategies and inspire creative solutions.
- Contribute to the development of internal design tools, best practices, and packaging guidelines.
- Support the evolution of design capabilities through exploration of new tools, technologies, and AI-enabled workflows.
- Actively contribute to a high-performing, collaborative creative culture focused on craft, excellence, and impact.
Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field required.
Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on packaging design experience in a CPG or brand-forward environment.
- Proven experience delivering packaging that is both creatively distinctive and commercially successful.
Skills & Expertise
- Strong portfolio demonstrating strategic thinking, design craft, and shelf impact across packaging formats.
- Deep understanding of the end-to-end packaging design and production process.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
- Familiarity with 3D rendering and visualization tools (e.g., Esko, Cinema 4D, Adobe Dimension) preferred.
- Knowledge of printing techniques, substrates, materials, and production constraints.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and commitment to design excellence.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence through strong creative point of view and communication.
