POSITION SUMMARY

TransMedics is transforming organ transplantation through the Organ Care System (OCS), an innovative platform that preserves and assesses donor organs outside the body. Our Sustaining Engineering team ensures our products continue to perform safely, reliably, and efficiently once they are in production and in the field. 

The Sustaining Engineering Intern will support ongoing product improvements, engineering testing, prototyping, and design updates for existing medical devices. This role offers hands-on experience with CAD modeling, 3D printing, and engineering validation in a highly regulated medical device environment. 

This internship is ideal for students who enjoy problem-solving, building, refining, and improving real-world products. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

CAD & Design Support 

  • Create and modify 3D models and drawings using CAD software 

  • Support engineering change requests and design updates 

  • Assist with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) improvements 

  • Help maintain accurate engineering documentation 

Prototyping & 3D Printing 

  • Assist in rapid prototyping activities, including 3D printing 

  • Build and assemble prototype components 

  • Support fit checks and functional evaluations 

  • Collaborate with engineers to iterate designs based on test results 

Engineering Testing & Analysis 

  • Assist with product testing and validation activities 

  • Collect and organize test data in accordance with quality standards 

  • Support root cause investigations and troubleshooting efforts 

  • Participate in cross-functional discussions with Manufacturing and Quality teams

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have direct reports.

PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES

  • General office environment where there is a significant amount of time at a desk, working on computers and reviewing documents. This requires the ability to sit for extended periods. They also may need to stand for meetings or when moving around the office.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Senior, College Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student 

  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field 

  • Experience with CAD software (SolidWorks or similar preferred) 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols
