Working in conjunction with Laboratory Leadership, the Lead Technologist provides advanced oversight of the laboratory’s quality systems, ensuring ongoing compliance with federal, state, accreditation, and organizational requirements. This role is accountable for the technical monitoring, evaluation, and validation of laboratory processes, instrumentation, and methodologies to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency of patient testing.
The Lead Technologist serves as the section’s technical resource and subject matter expert, supporting implementation of new methods, technology enhancements, and process improvements. Through proactive review of quality indicators, trend analysis, and documentation oversight, this position helps mitigate regulatory risk and safeguard testing standards. Non-compliance or operational risks are escalated to laboratory leadership for resolution.
This role requires advanced technical competency, independent analytical judgment, and a comprehensive understanding of laboratory regulatory frameworks. While the Lead Technologist provides technical guidance and support to peers, this position does not include formal personnel management responsibilities. Employment-related decisions remain under the authority of the Supervisor or Manager.

Education
- Associate's degree specializing in medical technology required
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related science field preferred
Experience
- 3-5 years Med Tech/Lab Tech required
- 5 years preferred
Certifications
- ASCP, AMT, NCA, HEW(HHS) certification

- Typing and word processing
- Language: medical and non-medical
- Other clerical skills including math, filing, grammar, medical and non-medical spelling
