General Summary

 

The Sr. Designer - Handbags is responsible for designing Steve Madden Mainline handbags, from concept through final product in partnership with Design Manager. This position supports the Wholesale Handbags business.

The responsibilities described below are considered essential functions of the role. This position is based in our NYC office and requires working on-site.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Design Manager
  • Help develop silhouette direction, hardware and print development
  • Work with material trends and handbag concepts
  • Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines with support and resources as needed
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Specific Job Skills:

 

Essential duties include

  • Create technical spec sheets
  • work cross functionally with production team to maintain design intent and quality
  • Track development progress and communication with oversea factories
  • Presentation boards
  • Line sheets
  • Styling and merchandising of product

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fashion design or related field
  • Minimum of 4-6 years’ experience, preferably in handbag or accessories
  • A strong aesthetic sensibility with a high-level creative attention to detail
  • Strong visual and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of handbag construction, materials, hardware and trims

 

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $85,000-$100,000. Ranges are based on various factors such as relevant skillset, training, years of experience related to the current job description, education, and our organizational structure.
