Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate – Member Services at the South Shore YMCA Nature Center is responsible for creating a safe and welcoming experience for all visitors and program participants. Key responsibilities include managing the front desk, answering phone calls and emails, greeting and assisting visitors, processing program registrations, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, supporting facility bookings, and helping with events and on-site programming as needed. Working closely with the Nature Center Director and teams, the Associate contributes to meeting the evolving needs of the organization and may take on additional tasks as assigned to support the center’s overall mission and operations.
This part-time position (up to 15 hours per week) requires a flexible schedule, including availability for weekday, evening, weekend, and school vacation week programming.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Greet and assist visitors in a friendly, professional manner while monitoring entry and exit to maintain a safe environment.

Answer phone calls and respond to emails promptly, providing accurate information about programs, schedules, and policies or directing inquiries as needed.

Respond to inquiries, solve problems, and address concerns in a timely fashion.

Process program and event registrations and payments accurately using required CRM systems and established procedures.

Maintain a clean, organized, and presentable front desk, lobby, and surrounding areas indoors and outdoors.

Open and close the facility as scheduled, including locking and unlocking doors.

Monitor program availability and waitlists, and support efforts to promote and fill programs.

Assist with programs, events, and space rentals, including setup, breakdown, and on-site support.

Monitor radio communications and provide backup support to staff as needed.

Follow all safety protocols by understanding emergency procedures and responding promptly and appropriately to incidents; document and report all incidents according to established procedures. Adhere to all YMCA policies and child protection guidelines, and maintain required trainings and certifications.

Support the ongoing growth and visibility of the Nature Center by assisting with additional tasks as needed.
Membership Engagement & Development:

Build relationships with and among families and members.

Create a supportive community environment, assist in recruiting and engaging new members, and connect members to the SSYMCA's cause.
Volunteer Engagement:

Work collaboratively with supervisors to identify volunteer opportunities.

Engage volunteers and assist with volunteer training.
Work Schedule & Expectations:
This is a part-time position (up to 15 hours per week) that requires a flexible schedule depending on program and event needs. Availability for weekday, evening, weekend, and school vacation week programming required.

Education & Experience:

Experience in a customer-facing role preferred.

Interest in and enthusiasm for nature, animals, plants, greenhouses, gardens, and working with both children and adults.
Technical & Communication Skills:

Strong communication, organization, planning, and time management skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, customer service, and business correspondence skills.

Proficiency in modern business software: including Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.

Must complete all training requirements offered by the Y, including CPR/FIRST AID and child protection.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit or stand for an extended period, walk, lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity.
