The Opportunity: The Bar Back supports bartenders in delivering efficient, high-quality service to members and guests by maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar environment. This behind-the-scenes role is vital to the smooth operation of bar service and requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced setting.
Duties and Functions
- Stock bar with liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, glassware, and supplies before and during service.
- Maintain cleanliness of bar area, including counters, sinks, floors, and storage areas.
- Remove used glassware, empty trash, and replenish ice as needed.
- Assist bartenders with preparing garnishes and basic drink components.
- Wash and polish glassware to ensure a consistent, high-end presentation.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate supply needs to the Bar Manager or Bartender.
- Support bartenders during busy service by running drinks, retrieving items, or assisting with guests when appropriate.
- Assist with bar setup and breakdown for events and private functions.
- Ensure compliance with sanitation, safety, and club policies at all times.
Qualification Standards
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous bar, restaurant, or hospitality experience is a plus but not required.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and handle physically demanding tasks (e.g., lifting kegs, moving crates).
- Professional appearance and a positive, service-oriented attitude.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Availability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
