Job Description

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Research Physician Assistant – Anal Cancer Screening & Treatment to join our Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute (MAPRI). This position is a full-time opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington, D.C., with a hybrid work model.

Reporting to the Director of Research Programs, the Research Physician Assistant will provide specialized clinical care for patients requiring High-Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) following abnormal anal cytology results. You will manage patient care throughout the screening, treatment, and follow-up process while supporting research initiatives focused on program outcomes, quality improvement, and dissemination of findings through scholarly activities and publications. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Research Physician Assistant supports and participates in research related to the program, including study design, data analysis, and contributions to peer-reviewed publications. The Research Physician Assistant also contributes to educational activities.

You can expect to:

  • Perform High-Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) procedures and manage associated treatment plans and follow-up care for patients across the Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Schedule and coordinate patient counseling appointments, procedures, re-screening, and follow-up care while tracking and managing clinical results.
  • Collaborate with Infectious Disease, Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN), PRIDE, and interdisciplinary care teams to support high-quality patient-centered care.
  • Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding screening, treatment plans, procedures, and post-procedure care.
  • Develop and maintain workflows and tracking systems to support population health management and continuity of care.
  • Maintain active patient lists and support population management across all service areas
  • Support quality improvement initiatives by evaluating care pathways, identifying operational challenges, and providing recommendations for process enhancements.
  • Participate in research activities, including study design, data analysis, regulatory compliance, and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Lead educational and in-service training activities for staff and healthcare team members.
  • Supports educational activities such as CMEs, and other educational activities as requested

What is required:

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Physician Assistant experience in a hospital or ambulatory care setting.
  • Previous experience conducting High-Resolution Anoscopy (HRA) procedures strongly preferred; exposure to or experience in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives preferred.
  • Physician Assistant licensure in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia (or ability to obtain within six months of hire); National Provider Identifier (NPI); Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration; Physician Assistant National Certification; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire; completion of International Anal Neoplasia Society (IANS) HRA Course required.
  • Basic Life Support Required at hire
  • Completion of research regulatory and compliance trainings required at hire
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational and time management abilities; ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary clinical and research teams.
  • High interest in serving patient populations at high risk for anal cancer; demonstration of patient focused service skills.
  • Problem-solving, organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be able to commute to Washington D.C., for in-clinic work re sponsibilities
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment
  • Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment
  • Responsible for knowing and following all Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, Kaiser Permanente, and Mid-Atlantic Permanente Research Institute policies and procedures.

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $120,000 to $140,000 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors.
