Schedule: Monday – Friday (No weekends)
Locations: Spend half your time at Saginaw and half at Fashion Square
The Registered Dietitian provides advanced nutritional services and education to dialysis patients and authorized caregivers in clinical settings to support and maximize the patient's nutritional well-being
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Nutritional Assessment: Independently evaluate, develop, and complete comprehensive nutrition assessments and reassessments consistent with CMS regulations
Care Planning: Work closely with patients and the interdisciplinary team (IDT) to establish, document, and update individualized plans of care (POC)
Medical Nutrition Therapy: Develop individualized Medical Nutrition Therapy and meal plans for patients based on reported laboratory results and individualized goals. Consult with physicians regarding lab tests as needed
Education & Counseling: Develop and implement nutrition education based on individualized patient needs (nutrient requirements, fluid allowance, medical, economic, and social situations). Utilize Motivational Interviewing with patients needing ongoing behavior change
Monitoring & Evaluation: Monitor nutritional status, laboratory values, dialysis adequacy, fluid status, and adherence to diet. Evaluate nutrition outcomes, identify contributing factors, and document appropriate interventions
Clinical Collaboration: Effectively communicate pertinent nutrition and fluid issues to the IDT. Act as a key contributor in patient care conferences, continuous quality improvement (CQI) teams, and IDT meetings
Specialized Management: Function as the Mineral and Bone Disorder Manager. Contact and collaborate with extended care facility staff or other medical personnel to facilitate appropriate nutritional care
Mentorship & Education: Present nutrition-related in-services for teammates at least annually. Serve as an advisory resource and potential mentor for entry-level dietitians or as a preceptor/dietetic intern host
Education and Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a similar area and as required for registration
Registered Dietitian with at least 12 months of clinical experience after successful completion of CDR exam to obtain registration as required by CMS
At least 2 years of specialized renal experience is preferred
State licensure or certification required if licensure or certification is available in the state where the facility is located
Intermediate computer skills and proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook required
