
Custodial Supervisor (Federal)
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for leading, training, and supervising custodial staff on a government-operated work site, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and compliance while fostering an inclusive, respectful work environment for all employees, including those with disabilities.
Essential Functions:
• Supervision & Leadership: Oversee custodial staff performing standard or aseptic cleaning and sanitation tasks; assign work based on facility priorities and staffing needs. Training includes the performance of cleaning tasks, including but not limited to dusting, sweeping/vacuuming, trash removal, wet and dry mopping, floor stripping/waxing, restroom cleaning, disinfection, and glass cleaning.
• Training & Compliance: Train staff on proper use of cleaning equipment, chemicals, safety precautions, OSHA regulations, PPE, and disability-inclusive work practices.
• Professionalism/Work Ethic: Demonstrate personal accountability, effective work habits, and understand the impact of non-verbal communication on professional work image. Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior, acts responsibly, and able to learn from mistakes.

• Performance Management: Conduct evaluations, progress reviews, and provide feedback; assist in staffing decisions and disciplinary actions.
• Career Management: Identify and articulate skills, strengths, knowledge, and experiences relevant to position desired and career goals as well as identify areas necessary for professional growth.
• Event & Special Needs Support: Prepare facilities for events, manage special cleaning schedules, and handle biohazard or spill situations.
• Digital Technology: Use existing digital technologies ethically and efficiently to solve problems, complete tasks, and accomplish goals. Demonstrate adaptability to new and emerging technologies.
• Security & Compliance: Maintain site security protocols, ensure compliance with government regulations, and uphold confidentiality requirements.
Competencies:
- Minimum of 6 months to 1 year in custodial supervision or related management role; experience working with diverse abilities and disabilities and in government or public sector settings.
- At least 2 years prior custodian experience required.
- Some experience working with employees of varying degrees of disabilities preferred.
- Position is considered essential personnel and will be required to report to work in inclement weather.
- Must have valid driver’s license and ability to get to job site and to other job sites as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; preferably in custodial management, education, or related field
- Experience:
- Minimum of 6 months to 1 year in custodial supervision or related management role; experience working with diverse abilities and disabilities and in government or public sector settings.
- At least 2 years prior custodian experience required.
- Some experience working with employees of varying degrees of disabilities preferred.
- Position is considered essential personnel and will be required to report to work in inclement weather.

- Skills: Leadership, communication, problem-solving, safety compliance, and ability to work in a security sensitive environment.
- Certifications: CPR, AED, OSHA training, and any relevant custodial or safety certifications
- Security Clearance: Must be able to pass pre-hire screenings such as background and drug screenings and be able to obtain required security access to job site.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to walk, stand, and lift equipment up to (75) pounds with assistance over 50 pounds and always using a lifting belt correctly; work in varied environments including indoor and outdoor government facilities.
