About the Role:
The Data Platform Leader is responsible for defining, building, and operating the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), a centralized, governed, and scalable data foundation that enables enterprise analytics and accelerates insight delivery. This role owns the end-to-end data platform capability as a strategic enterprise asset, including vision, investment direction.
The role leads the design and execution of a modern AWS Native Lakehouse platform, ensuring secure, high performance, and self-service access to trusted data across the organization. It requires a balance of deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to operate within a federated data model that supports domain ownership while maintaining centralized governance.
Roles and Responsibilities
Platform Strategy
- Define and execute the enterprise data platform strategy and roadmap
- Design and evolve a modern AWS native lakehouse architecture
- Establish scalable, reusable data platform patterns and standards
- Drive migration from legacy Microsoft based data platforms
- Define and evolve the federated data operating model, including domain responsibilities and data product standards
Platform Delivery & Operations
- Own delivery and ongoing operation of the data platform
- Oversee development of data ingestion pipelines and transformation frameworks
- Ensure platform reliability, performance, and scalability
- Implement monitoring, observability, and operational controls
- Optimize platform cost efficiency across storage, compute, and data processing workloads
Data Governance & Security
- Define and enforce data governance standards, policies, and controls
- Implement fine-grained access control using AWS Lake Formation
- Enable enterprise data cataloging, metadata management, and discovery (e.g., AWS DataZone)
- Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and audit requirements
Technology Leadership
- Lead tooling and technology decisions across the platform ecosystem
- Define reference architectures for batch, streaming, and real-time processing
- Standardize orchestration and data processing patterns
- Own integration strategy and interoperability with analytics and BI tools such as Power BI, SQL based platforms, Agentic AI capabilities (e.g., model context protocol, data access patterns for AI workloads)
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers and analysts
- Establish engineering standards, best practices, and quality frameworks
- Build capabilities in modern data engineering, governance, and platform operations
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Stakeholder Engagement
- Drive alignment with business domains to onboard and scale data products
- Enable self-service data access and consumption
- Drive alignment with architecture, security, and analytics teams
- Act as the primary escalation point for platform related decisions
Qualifications & Experience
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, or related fields
- 3+ years of experience leading data engineering or platform teams
- Strong hands on experience with AWS data ecosystem:
- S3, Glue, Lake Formation, DataZone, IAM
- Athena, Redshift, or similar query engines
- Experience designing and implementing Lakehouse or modern data platform architectures
- Expertise in data ingestion, ETL/ELT pipelines, and orchestration frameworks
- Strong understanding of data governance, security, and access control models
- Experience with enterprise data cataloging and metadata management
Preferred Skills:
- Experience migrating from Microsoft centric data platforms (e.g., SQL Server, SSIS, Azure)
- Familiarity with domain oriented or data mesh operating models
- Experience supporting analytics tools such as Power BI
- Knowledge of data sharing and cross domain data product models
- Exposure to agentic AI capabilities and data access patterns for AI workloads
Work Environment & Operating Model
- Operates within a federated data model balancing centralized governance and domain ownership
- Supports a self service data ecosystem with governed access and discovery
- Enables cross domain data sharing with secure, fine grained controls
- Partners closely with domain teams, analytics users, and enterprise architecture
