What We Are Looking For

The Traffic Control Technician plays a critical role in supporting Ceres Caribe’s disaster recovery, vegetation management, and field operations by ensuring the safe and efficient movement of vehicles, equipment, and personnel at active work sites. This role sits within the Operations division and works closely with Site Supervisors, Equipment Operators, and field crews.

This position does not manage direct reports but is essential to maintaining safe work zones, preventing accidents, and supporting operational flow. Success in the first 12 months includes consistently maintaining safe traffic patterns, preventing incidents, demonstrating strong communication with field teams, and supporting rapid-response operations during emergency deployments.

What You Will Do

  • Direct and control the movement of vehicles, equipment, and personnel through active work zones.
  • Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices including cones, signage, barricades, and flagging equipment.
  • Monitor site conditions and adjust traffic flow to maintain safety and operational efficiency.
  • Communicate clearly with equipment operators, truck drivers, and field crews to coordinate safe movement.
  • Ensure compliance with all Ceres Caribe safety standards, OSHA requirements, and local regulations.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, near misses, or hazards to supervisors immediately.
  • Assist with site preparation, staging areas, and vehicle routing during disaster response operations.
  • Maintain accurate logs of traffic patterns, incidents, and equipment usage as required.
  • Support emergency deployments, including rapid mobilization during storms or disaster events.
  • Represent Ceres Caribe professionally when interacting with community members, subcontractors, and partners.
  • Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of experience in traffic control, construction, disaster recovery, or field operations.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain a Traffic Control/Flagger certification (ATSSA or equivalent).
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly in fast‑moving, high‑risk environments.
  • Knowledge of traffic control devices, safety protocols, and work‑zone procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in disaster recovery, utility line clearing, or vegetation management.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Experience operating radios or communication equipment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and emergency response operations.

What to Expect

As a Traffic Control Technician, you can expect to work in dynamic, fast‑paced field environments where safety, communication, and situational awareness are essential. You will spend most of your time outdoors, supporting crews performing debris removal, vegetation management, utility line clearing, and disaster recovery operations. Work schedules may vary based on project needs and may include long hours, weekends, or emergency deployments during storms or natural disasters.

You will collaborate closely with supervisors, equipment operators, and field teams to maintain safe work zones and ensure smooth operational flow. The role requires adaptability, professionalism, and a commitment to Ceres Caribe’s mission of restoring communities and strengthening Puerto Rico’s infrastructure.

The physical requirements listed below reflect the essential functions of this role. If you need accommodation to perform these functions, please inform us during the application process.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and direct traffic in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
