PURPOSE OF POSITION:

A Kitchen Manager Samaritan House at Catholic Charities: 

  • Responsible for written weekly menu approval consistent with CACFP guidelines for all shelters and Early Childhood Education. Assures variety on a regular basis for planned meals by donation usage superseding the written menu when donations are available.
  • Responsible for hiring and the training of kitchen personnel under KM’s direct supervision.
  • Responsible for training supervisors in menu writing, food safety policies, donation usage, purchased product usage, team development, schedule writing, staff hiring and all operational procedures within the kitchen.
  • Holds regular scheduled meetings with department and supervisors consistent with the program and facility standards.
  • Oversees supervisors for new staff onboarding within the department and staff development within the Denver shelters kitchen operations.
  • Responsible for all food and janitorial supply purchases within the kitchen operation. Assures spending within the program’s fiscal year budget and reports spending updates when needed.
  • Responsible for paying ALL food and kitchen maintenance invoices.
  • Solicits in-kind food donations for prepared foods and unprepared food within the community adhering to all food safety standards.
  • Responsible for menu creation, food production and setup for any special catered events.
  • Responsible for labor budget in kitchen operations consistent with fiscal budget.
  • Oversees state grant budget for the Children’s Breakfast Program. Conducts Catholic Charities CACFP Audits and inspections including Greeley and Ft Collins grant funded programs.
  • Responsible for reviewing all food donations that are available at Food Bank of the Rockies daily and determining what the kitchen team can utilize. Making the food bank orders and arranging pickups/delivery with the catering/warehouse teams.
  • Oversees food safety training program within the Denver City and County guidelines.
  • Works with the Denver Health officials to maintain a high standard of food safety.
  • Works with volunteer coordinator on all volunteer activities within all food service areas. Works with food services volunteer coordinators in establishing excellent volunteer relationships. Train’s supervisors to engage volunteerism within the kitchen operations labor needs.
  • Responsible for attending quarterly Town Hall meetings at the shelters. Following up and addressing any issues that are identified during the meetings or sent in through the HESK system.
  • Responsible for the menu creations, food production and setup for special catering events which include but are not limited to: board meetings, Summer shelter BBQs and donor lunches.
  • Maintains confidentiality of client and agency information.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years institutional and or restaurant experience.
  • Good working knowledge of all food preparation, commercial grade kitchen equipment and production standards including sanitation safety standards.
  • The ability to function independently and maintain self-sufficiency with minimal supervision.
  • Express excellent interpersonal communication skills, flexibility and willingness to shift priorities as needed.
  • Computer skills.
  • Knowledge of the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base.
  • CACFP Certification
  • 2 years’ experience or equivalent in grant funded food programs

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate degree (AA) or certificate in food service/nutrition or related from an accredited university; and one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Salary: $65,000-$70,000 per year. Full time.

  • 403b Retirement Plan with Agency contribution of 4% & match up to 2% of annual compensation.

**Part-time employees (20-29 hours per week) also receive paid annual leave, company paid holidays, and 403b retirement plan with agency contribution and match.
