The opportunity

Saab Australia is an industry participant in the Combat Systems Integration – Integrated Project Team (CSI-IPT) Collaboration Agreement (CSI-IPT CCA). The CSI-IPT CCA forms a collaborative enterprise organisation to execute scopes of work across Hobart Class Destroyer (SEA4000 Phase 6 and other related Destroyer Capability Enhancement (DCE) upgrades) and the Hunter Class Frigates (HCFs - SEA5000 Phase 1). This will see independently executed programs such as SEA4000 Phase 6 and SEA5000 Phase 1 brought under one umbrella enterprise organisation, the CSI-IPT.

The CSI-IPT will be built up with personnel from three industry participants and the Commonwealth of Australia (CoA) to form a collaborative team working across multiple programs to leverage synergies between platforms.

The role

As part of our Engineering and Sustainment Services group, the Project Planning and Controls Manager will be responsible for the CSI-IPT Enterprise Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and executing Earned Value Management (EVM) across a portfolio of Tasking Statements within the CSI-IPT in accordance with the CSI-IPT Collaboration Agreement (CCA) and CSI-IPT Management System Plan (CMSP).

Further, the successful candidate will:

  • Act as the SME for EVM and demonstrate leadership in Project Planning & Controls across the CSI-IPT Enterprise.
  • Maintain and upkeep the CSI-IPT EVMP and EVMS, including all relevant processes, systems and tools.
  • Develop, maintain and drive the monthly EVM reporting drumbeat ensuring compliance.
  • Support CSI-IPT reporting activities, internal and external reviews in relation to EVM and Project Planning & Controls.
  • Ensure consistency of EVM practices between all Programs and Tasking Statements within the CSI-IPT.
  • Lead a team of Project Planning and Controls professionals to ensure programs and portfolios of Tasking Statements are serviced and supported.
  • Manage the Project Planning & Controls capability within the CSI-IPT and encourage continuous improvement and professional development within the team.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interface with Industry Participants to ensure consistence and alignment of processes, tools, and practices.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office and a 9-day fortnight will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in engineering, science or business discipline (desirable).
  • Proven track record in a senior Project Planning & Controls or EVM leadership role, preferably within complex defence, aerospace, or heavy engineering environments.
  • Managing controls for large-scale programs (highly desirable).
  • Leading and developing a multi-disciplinary team of 5+ project controllers and planners.
  • Establishing, maintaining, and auditing an Enterprise Earned Value Management System in accordance with industry standards
  • Deep technical knowledge of EVM principles, including SPI/CPI analysis, TCPI, and Variance Analysis.
  • Working in complex collaborative frameworks, such as Alliances, Integrated Project Teams (IPTs), or Managing Contractor contracts (desirable).
  • Optimising forecasts, perform quantitative risk analysis, and drive Estimate at Completion (EAC) accuracy.
  • Expert-level knowledge of enterprise scheduling and cost tools (e.g., Primavera P6, OpenPlan, Cobra, or PRISM).
  • A proactive "driver" mindset capable of maintaining a rigorous monthly reporting drumbeat while managing shifting priorities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
