Position Overview
The Claims Specialist II investigates, evaluates, and resolves cargo loss and damage claims across multiple lines of business. This role combines analytical thinking, investigative work, customer communication, and problem-solving to ensure claims are handled fairly, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies, contractual obligations, and federal regulations.
In this position, you'll work closely with customers, agents, military representatives, national account contacts, and internal teams to gather information, determine liability, and reach appropriate claim resolutions. Success requires sound judgment, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex situations while maintaining a customer-focused approach.
This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in claims management while gaining exposure to various areas of UniGroup's moving and logistics operations.
What You'll Do
Evaluate and settle household goods and logistics claims across multiple lines of business
Review claims for reasonableness, accuracy, liability, and compliance with federal regulations, operating tariffs, contract provisions, and company policies
Investigate claim details and gather documentation needed to determine liability and allocate settlement responsibility to the appropriate parties
Analyze facts, supporting documentation, and claim circumstances to make fair and consistent settlement decisions
Exercise judgment and decision-making authority when evaluating settlement options and claim resolutions
Communicate extensively with agents, customers, military offices, government agencies, national account contacts, and internal departments
Maintain accurate claim documentation and case records throughout the claims process
Partner with internal stakeholders to resolve issues and ensure timely claim handling
Support department initiatives and perform additional responsibilities as assigned
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
2–3 years of related professional experience
Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
1+ years of claims adjusting experience
Experience reviewing documentation, determining liability, and negotiating claim resolutions
Experience working in transportation, logistics, insurance, customer service, or a related industry
Knowledge of federal regulations, contracts, tariffs, or claims administration processes
