WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Slate Auto is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Commercial Accounting team, focused on vehicle revenue recognition and related accounting. This role owns the end-to-end accounting for future vehicle and vehicle-related revenue streams, cost of goods sold, finished goods vehicle inventory and LCNRV considerations.
As an early member of the Commercial Accounting team, you will build foundational processes and controls that scale with the business, including new ERP implementation. The ideal candidate is proactive, technically strong in GAAP (particularly ASC 606 and ASC 330), and is comfortable working cross-functionally across FP&A, sales, operations, and legal.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
- Apply ASC 606 analysis to vehicle and vehicle-related sales, including identification of performance obligations, transaction price allocation, and principal vs. agent assessment across sales channels
- Record and reconcile customer deposits arising from vehicle orders and preorders placed prior to delivery
- Perform procedures for tracking and reconciling vehicle sales, non-manufacturing cost of sales, inventory, and vehicle preorders for monthly financial and operational reporting
- Analyze finished goods vehicle inventory for lower-of-cost-or-net realizable value (LCNRV) in accordance with ASC 330-10
- Own monthly close activities: journal entries, account reconciliations, inventory roll-forwards, and product line profitability reporting
- Partner with FP&A on budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis for vehicle-related revenue and cost of goods sold
- Build and maintain internal controls and scalable processes with an eye toward SOX readiness
- Support external audits and assist with financial statement disclosures related to inventory and revenue
- Evaluate new products, sales channels, and operational changes to anticipate and address accounting impacts before launch
- Partner with the business to develop, design, and execute the vehicle order-to-cash (O2C) process end-to-end
- Participate in the ERP system implementation – including drafting accounting requirements, performing user acceptance testing (UAT), and documenting test results and outcomes in detail
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CPA candidates preferred
- 4+ years of relevant accounting experience; public accounting experience strongly preferred
- Deep understanding of ASC 606, with hands-on experience applying principal/agent determinations
- Experience with inventory accounting under ASC 330, including COGS, reserves, and physical count reconciliation
- Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and comfort working with IT on integrations and transaction flow design
- Advanced Excel skills; strong analytical mindset with attention to detail
- Proven ability to build processes from scratch in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated initiative and independent thought
- Automotive, EV, e-commerce, or consumer products experience preferred
