Job Goal: To provide early childhood students with disabilities with developmentally appropriate instruction and supports designed to build foundational academic, communication, behavioral, social-emotional, adaptive, and school readiness skills in preparation for successful transition into kindergarten programming.
Job Qualifications: - Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred.
- Possess or be eligible for educator licensure and/or certification in Delaware for Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities and/or Early Childhood Special Education.
- Experience working with preschool and early childhood-aged students with developmental, communication, behavioral, or learning needs preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of child development, early learning standards, and developmentally appropriate instructional practices.
- Experience implementing individualized supports, visual supports, structured teaching strategies, and social-emotional learning practices preferred.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with families, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated ability in classroom management, organization, instructional planning, progress monitoring, and differentiated instruction.
Essential Functions: - Develop and implement individualized and small-group instruction aligned to early learning standards, kindergarten readiness skills, IEP goals, and developmental learning needs.
- Create a structured, supportive, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that promotes communication, social-emotional development, independence, and school readiness.
- Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies, visual supports, behavioral supports, and play-based learning opportunities to engage students in meaningful learning experiences.
- Collect and maintain accurate student data related to developmental progress, IEP goals, communication, behavior, and readiness skills.
- Collaborate with related service providers, families, and staff to support individualized student programming and successful transitions into kindergarten settings.
- Coordinate, direct, and assign work for paraprofessional staff within the classroom setting.
- Maintain ongoing communication with families regarding student progress, supports, and developmental growth.
- Participate in professional development related to early childhood special education, communication development, behavior supports, and instructional best practices.
- Promote and facilitate opportunities for inclusion and interaction with same-age peers within the classroom, school environment, and district programs to support social-emotional growth, communication development, relationship building, and participation in age-appropriate learning experiences.
- Implement and utilize District-approved curriculum resources, including Unique Learning System (ULS), to provide differentiated, standards-aligned instruction that supports individualized student learning needs, communication development, functional skill acquisition, and kindergarten readiness outcomes.
