
Principal Facility MEP Engineer
Job Description
Position Summary
The Facilities Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of building systems including Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP), with a strong focus on automation, system integration, and quality assurance. This role ensures reliable utilities, optimized performance, regulatory compliance, and high-quality service delivery across facility operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. MEP Systems Management
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot MEP systems, including Facility systems.
- Ensure system reliability, efficiency, and compliance with local codes and industry standards
- Plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs
- Monitor energy consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives
- Support facility expansion, installation, and modification projects
2. Facility Control Systems
- Manage and optimize Building Management Systems (BMS), SCADA, PLC, and IoT-based monitoring systems
- Develop automation strategies to improve operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and enable predictive maintenance
- Integrate facility systems for centralized monitoring and control
- Analyze system data to identify trends, anomalies, and improvement opportunities
- Collaborate with IT and engineering teams on smart facility initiatives and digital transformation
3. Quality & Compliance
- Establish and maintain quality standards for facility operations and maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001), safety regulations, and internal procedures
- Conduct audits, inspections, and root cause analysis for system failures or deviations
- Develop and maintain SOPs, checklists, and documentation
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using tools such as Six Sigma, Lean, or RCA (Root Cause Analysis)
4. Project & Vendor Management
- Manage contractors and vendors for maintenance, upgrades, and installations
- Prepare technical specifications, review designs, and oversee project execution
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required quality standards
- Evaluate vendor performance and ensure compliance
5. Reliability & Risk Management
- Identify risks related to facility systems and implement mitigation plans
- Ensure critical systems redundancy and uptime (e.g., power supply, cooling systems)
- Support emergency response and troubleshoot major system failures
6. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of operations, maintenance, and system performance
- Prepare reports on KPIs such as uptime, energy efficiency, and maintenance effectiveness
- Utilize Maintenance Management Systems for tracking and planning
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Facilities Engineering, or related field
- 3–8+ years of experience in engineering with exposure to MEP systems, automation, and quality systems
- Experience with control systems and data-driven facility management
- Familiarity with ISO standards, safety compliance, and auditing processes
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of smart building technologies / Industry 4.0
- Experience in manufacturing, or high-tech environments
- Certification in LEED, Six Sigma, or PMP is a plus
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
