The Prince George's County Office of the State's Attorney is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Budget Specialist (Budget Management Analyst 3G) grade G24 position, in the Budget Unit.

About the Position
This is a senior-level administrative position within the Prince George’s County Office of the State’s Attorney, serving as the Budget Specialist. The incumbent is responsible for performing complex budgetary, financial, and administrative functions requiring the exercise of independent judgment, initiative, and professional discretion. This position supports the achievement of the Office’s strategic and operational goals through effective budget planning, analysis, and fiscal oversight. The Budget Specialist reports directly to the Budget Director and works in close coordination with the State’s Attorney and Principal Deputy State’s Attorney on matters related to budget development, financial management, and organizational priorities.

The Office will be responsive to the very diverse community of Prince George’s County, treating every person with dignity and respect. The State's Attorney's Office (SAO) is responsible for serving nearly one million residents of Prince George's County. The SAO's legal department is divided into multiple divisions, each of which has jurisdiction over different facets of criminal law.
  • Assists in the preparation, development, and administration of the Office’s annual operating and grant-funded budgets.
  • Monitors expenditures and budget allocations to ensure compliance with approved budgets, policies, and funding requirements.
  • Analyzes financial data and prepares budget forecasts, projections, and variance reports.
  • Reviews purchase requests, contracts, and requisitions for budget availability and fiscal compliance.
  • Prepares budget amendments, transfers, and other financial adjustments as needed.
  • Maintains budget records and financial databases; ensures accuracy and completeness of fiscal data.
  • Assists with grant budgeting, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Prepares financial reports, presentations, and supporting documentation for executive leadership, county agencies, and funding entities.
  • Coordinates with Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, and program staff on budget-related matters.
  • Assists with audits and responds to requests for financial and budget information.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University in Accounting, Business/Public Management, Finance, Economics, Quantitative Analyses, or closely related field.

  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative and budgeting experience.

An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in budget administration, financial analysis, accounting, grants management, or governmental finance.
  • Experience preparing, monitoring, and analyzing operating budgets.
  • Experience preparing financial reports and budget forecasts.
  • Experience interpreting and applying fiscal policies, procedures, and regulations.
