Job Description

Job Description

Position Summary

This role sits right at the connection point between design and fabrication—where models turn into real product.

As a Mechanical Detailer, you’ll take coordinated models, specs, and field inputs and turn them into clean, shop-ready drawings that fabrication can actually build from—no guesswork, no back-and-forth. You’ll partner closely with our VDC team and Project Coordinators to make sure what’s designed is accurate, buildable, and delivered on time. If the shop is asking questions, we missed something. The goal here is simple: clarity, accuracy, and speed. This role helps us move faster, reduce reliance on remote support, and build stronger on-site execution. Bottom line: what you produce directly impacts what gets built.

Key Deliverables

  • Shop drawings, part drawings, cut sheets, spool sheets, construction plans, and fabrication packages
  •  Elevation, section, plan views, bend details, and bill of material lists
  •  Drawings ready for approval and submittal updates with a traceable revision history

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the VDC team to align model content with project specifications, fabrication standards, and coordinate requirements
  • Work closely with Project Coordinators to meet schedules, approvals, and submittal milestones
  • Maintain accurate revision history and document control across model drawings and drawings packages
  • Update model content with customer, engineer, and or architect supplied notes, redlines, RFIs, and field dimensions
  • Support BOM creation and part tracking as required by workflows

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum education: technical certification in drafting, CAD, mechanical design, or related field
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit (or comparable 3D modeling tools)
  • Experience producing fabrication-level shop drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and piping standards
  • Strong attention to detail, file organization, and revision discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in a similar fabrication drafting role
  • Familiarity with piping, fittings, valves, supports, and spool-based fabrication
  • Exposure to fabrication management tools
  • Experience supporting EPC, industrial, or large commercial projects

Key Skills & Competencies

  • 2D detailing and 3D modeling for fabrication
  • Constructability mindset and practical problem‑solving
  • Clear communication with the VDC and Fabrication Team
  • Focus on quality, disciplined document control, and ownership of deadlines
  • Ethics, teamwork, planning, and positive mindset

Success Metrics

  • Fabrication packages are clear, complete, and issued on time
  • Reduced RFIs, and questions in the shop, and, or field due to a high level of accuracy
  • Revisions are controlled and traceable
  • Models and drawings match approved project requirements

Other Duties

  • This description outlines the core responsibilities and is not exhaustive. Duties may evolve according to project and organizational needs.
