Job Description

Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on specific area of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications.

We are seeking a Project Officer or Research Assistant to support our research and testing initiatives in power electronics for medium-voltage grid-connected applications. These research efforts align closely with the university’s strategic goals toward building more sustainable societies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support IT integration of laboratory test equipment (power supplies, converters, sensors, data acquisition systems) with local and remote monitoring systems.

  • Assist in modifications, upgrades, and maintenance of remote dashboards used for experiment monitoring and control.

  • Design and develop dashboard widgets for real-time and post-processed data visualization.

  • Implement and improve data representation methods (graphs, charts, trends, alerts) for experimental and performance data.

  • Support testing activities, including system setup, connectivity troubleshooting, logging, and validation of data integrity.

  • Work closely with researchers and engineers to translate experimental requirements into IT and software solutions.

  • Maintain documentation for dashboards, interfaces, configurations, and test setups.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including procurement, finance, and safety to support project delivery and compliance.

  • Contribute to research proposals, research disseminations, and project deliverables.

  • Support laboratory activities, including equipment maintenance, procurement, and administrative tasks.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering, or electrical engineering or information systems.

  • Experience with IT systems integration, instrumentation interfaces, and data communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, serial, Ethernet-based instruments).

  • Familiarity with dashboard development, data visualization tools, or web-based UI frameworks.

  • Basic understanding of power electronics laboratory environments is an advantage.

  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware–software interaction issues in a research setting.

  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, cross-functional teams, and fast-paced research environment.
