How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As the Production Manager you are responsible for the execution of the production team and schedule including on time completion at all work centers and the proper movement of materials between centers as required. This role continuously reviews execution performance and determines levers (i.e., people, process, technology) to drive improved results and ensure all plant activities are performed in a safe environment with the highest level of quality.

Management/Leadership:
- Build and develop a high-performance team; set individual and team performance levels; reward, coach and develop team members as appropriate.
- Lead, develop and manage a team of production supervisors, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure efficient and effective operations and a positive working environment.
- Foster open communication and promote a culture of trust and engagement, embodying the SPX core values.
- Partner in the recruitment of employees by actively participating in the hiring, selection, and on-boarding processes.
- Actively support employee training and development
- Proactively address employee issues & challenges in a positive and proactive manner
Operations Execution:
- Responsible for ensuring consistent execution of daily and weekly production schedules.
- Accountable to meet/exceed the KPI’s required for annual operating plan target (“AOP”) levels regarding: EH&S, Quality, On time delivery, Cost, Inventory and People.
- Work closely with the leaders to develop and execute strategic business plans, AOP, capital plans, S&OP and growth strategies.
- Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results.
- Implement a strategic work force plan to deliver results to the required standards and maintain a diverse work force that demonstrably supports Company standards and ethics.
- Manage budgetary and financial controls to meet or exceed Plan objectives.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams, including production planning, logistics, engineering, procurement, and sales to improve production processes and ensure on-time delivery of orders that meet customer expectations.
Safety & Continuous Improvement:
- Ensure “safety first” culture, developing and driving the EH&S processes to maintain a safe work environment and full compliance.
- Champion and change agent for safety and continuous improvement, including leading all aspects of the Management System; managing for daily improvement to achieve established objectives.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize productivity, reduce cost, and improve overall operational efficiency.
- Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify areas for improvement and take proactive measures to address.
- Participate in other projects assigned that relate to the overall goals of the department and organization.
What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
Required Experience
- Five plus years as a Production (manufacturing, operations) Manager level
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 5-10 years of supervisory/management/leadership experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience in Assembly in high-volume, high mix environment preferred.
- Fabrication (metal forming) and Paint Experience is preferred
- Ability to define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Problems solving and data analysis skills (8D, 5Y, statistics, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience in One-piece flow: balancing, pacing and improved through-put, Visual factory; KPIs, and pacing boards.
- Solid foundation/understanding of manufacturing financial metrics – working capital, Raw/WIP/FGI inventory, inventory turns, productivity, efficiency, order fill rate, on-time delivery, etc.
- Must have strong computer skills with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications. Able to develop summary graphs, tables, pivot tables, and other reports using PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Understanding inventory control techniques and knowledge of implications of BOM accuracy, inventory accuracy, and material transactions/movement within the factory.
- Exhibits a strong ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy required.
- Conflict resolution abilities to address issues with a positive attitude.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data driven decisions.
- Strong engineering and process conformance knowledge and experience including WI (standard work), testing and audit processes, and engineering change management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead continuous improvement, lean savings, and process improvements.
- Strong knowledge of operational processes, including production planning, scheduling, inventory management, and quality control
- Proficiency in utilizing ERP or manufacturing software for inventory management and production planning and systems for data analysis and reporting.
- Proven ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve goals. Proven experience attracting, retaining, motivating, and developing high performing, diverse teams.
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (Engineering, Business) is strongly preferred.
Travel & Working Environment
- Minimal travel (<10%) that includes visits to other facilities and training.
- The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Manufacturing Environment frequently requires use of foot, eye and ear protection when in production areas.
