The Patient Safety Manager is responsible for leading, coordinating, and advancing the organization’s patient safety program. This role drives the identification, analysis, and mitigation of patient safety risk, promotes a culture of safety, and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. The manager partners with the Director, Clinical Quality Improvement, clinical and operational leaders to reduce harm, improve outcomes, and support high reliability performance across the organization.
Facilitates performance improvement activities at the hospital level in coordination with quality and hospital leadership, including core measures, Joint Commission Accreditation and Disease Specific Certifications. Provides quality improvement training and education and acts as a facilitator for hospital implementation and process improvements. Coordinates data gathering and analysis for hospital- specific metrics and reports data back to departments for the complete quality improvement cycle. Investigates and assists in identification of areas of improvement with a number of tools to include root cause analysis, intensive analysis, process mapping, and failure modes effects analysis. Ensures hospital compliance for various regulatory bodies in coordination with system quality. Educates staff and medical staff, as appropriate, related to performance metrics and performance. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Coordinates, assists and advises on a variety of meetings, seminars, services and/or programs related to the overall Quality/Performance Improvement program. Coordinates hospital wide performance improvement activities under the direction of the DCQI. Other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or related discipline in a hospital/healthcare setting.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Master’s in Nursing, Health Services, or Patient Safety preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Required: 3 years in direct patient care and 3 years in Quality/Risk/Patient Safety
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Strong knowledge of patient safety science & human factors engineering. Familiarity with AHRQ Patient Safety Indicators, Data analysis and performance improvement methodology, Excellent communication, facilitation, and leadership skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive organizational change.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Current Texas State Registered Nurse Licensure. Risk Management Certification via CPPS or CPHRQ required within 1 year.
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Certified Joint Commission Professional (CJCP) or other certification in healthcare quality. Completion of patient safety curriculum either through ASHRM, NPSF, NQF
