Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities
- Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
- Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
- Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
- Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Join us as a Senior Software Engineer within Markets Post Trade Technology in Glasgow, where you will design, develop, test, and enhance software solutions using established engineering methodologies. You will play a key role in transforming global inventory management platforms, delivering scalable, low-latency and high-performance services that support real-time inventory visibility, reconciliation, funding, liquidity, and regulatory reporting capabilities. Working with stakeholders across Markets, Treasury, Liquid Financing, Operations, and Regulatory Reporting, you will help deliver solutions that are technically sound, commercially impactful, and aligned to strategic platform objectives.
To be successful in this role you will need:
- Proven ability to design, implement and maintain enterprise-scale systems using Java, Spring Boot, Microservices Architecture, Event-Driven Design, REST APIs, Apache Camel, and SOLID principles.
- Strong hands-on experience with Kafka, Solace, MQ, Oracle, SQL/PLSQL, RDBMS, including performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimisation.
- Experience building low-latency, multithreaded server-side applications, with exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, cloud-native development, and observability tooling.
Other highly valued skills include:
- Strong understanding of Test-Driven Development, Behaviour Driven Development, secure coding practices, and software engineering best practices.
- Exposure to NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, and familiarity with front-end technologies such as React or Angular.
- Knowledge or exposure to financial services technology, particularly post-trade, inventory management, settlement, reconciliation, or securities processing platforms.
You may be assessed on key skills that support success in this role, such as risk and governance methodologies, strategic thinking, and best practices for standard technology control processes, alongside role-specific technical skills.
