Primary Function
The Lead Integration Quality Inspector serves as the senior technical quality authority supporting the integration, assembly, inspection, verification, and testing of complex ground-based mechanical, structural, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and software-controlled systems. This position ensures compliance with engineering drawings, technical data packages (TDPs), schematics, specifications, contract requirements, and applicable industry and military standards throughout all phases of integration, testing, and product acceptance.
The Lead Integration Quality Inspector provides technical leadership for inspection planning, configuration verification, First Article Inspection (AS9102), functional test readiness, and nonconformance resolution while partnering with Engineering, Manufacturing, Safety, Configuration Management, and Program Management to ensure products are safe, compliant, and ready for operational testing and customer acceptance. The position also mentors Integration Inspectors and supports continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen quality, integration, and operational excellence.
Lead Responsibilities
- Provides day-to-day technical leadership and work direction to Integration Quality Inspectors assigned to integration, inspection, and test activities.
- Coordinates inspection priorities and workflow with Quality Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Program personnel to support production and integration schedules.
- Serves as the primary technical resource for complex inspections, engineering drawing interpretation, system configuration verification, and functional test readiness.
- Reviews inspection results, verifies compliance with engineering and contractual requirements, and assists in resolving complex technical issues.
- Mentors and develops Integration Quality Inspectors through on-the-job training, technical guidance, and sharing of best practices.
- Supports investigation of nonconformances, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assists with customer audits, source inspections, First Article Inspections (AS9102), test readiness reviews, and acceptance activities.
- Promotes compliance with quality, safety, configuration management, and company procedures while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Serves as the Quality representative during integration and functional test activities, ensuring inspection requirements and quality checkpoints are completed prior to system release.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of Ground Integration Quality operations.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, assembly drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, pneumatic schematics, bills of material, and technical data packages (TDPs).
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, structural, and electro-mechanical system integration principles.
- Working knowledge of configuration management, engineering change processes, and revision control.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment, inspection tools, and calibrated test equipment.
- Strong understanding of AS9100 Quality Management Systems, AS9102 First Article Inspection, ANSI/ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and applicable military specifications and standards.
- Ability to inspect complex assemblies and verify system configuration prior to functional, environmental, and acceptance testing.
- Demonstrated ability to identify technical discrepancies, evaluate nonconformances, and support root cause and corrective action investigations.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic integration environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to coordinate technical issues across Engineering, Manufacturing, Safety, Configuration Management, Programs, and Customers.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and quality management, ERP/MRP, and electronic documentation systems
- Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to Integration Quality Inspectors while promoting a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or higher in a technical discipline preferred.
Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in quality inspection, manufacturing, maintenance, integration, or related technical field, with at least eight (8) years supporting complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electro-mechanical systems.
Demonstrated experience interpreting engineering drawings, technical data packages (TDPs), electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and pneumatic schematics.
Experience performing receiving, in-process, final, and First Article Inspections (AS9102) within an AS9100 or equivalent Quality Management System.
Experience generating and documenting Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), supporting Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), and implementing corrective actions.
Proficiency using precision measuring equipment, inspection tools, and computer-based quality documentation systems.
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required, to support customer and program requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting prototype development, system integration, developmental testing, or defense integration programs.
- Working knowledge of AS9100, AS9102, ANSI/ASME Y14.5 (GD&T), and applicable military standards.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (Costpoint or equivalent).
- Experience participating in Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), Functional Test Procedures (FTPs), or system acceptance testing.
- Previous experience providing technical leadership or mentoring inspection personnel.
