Overview         

As a Principal Rolling Stock Engineer, you provide expert consultancy and technical leadership on rolling stock projects, ensuring compliance with international standards and resolving complex engineering issues. You lead design assurance, inspections, and verification activities across mechanical, electrical, propulsion, braking, and onboard systems. With 12–15 years of experience, you deliver project oversight, stakeholder coordination, and quality assurance to guide major rail projects to successful completion.

Your role

Technical Leadership & Consultancy

  • Provide high-level engineering consultancy services to clients on rolling stock projects.
  • Lead the review and assessment of rolling stock designs, specifications, and technical submissions.
  • Advise clients on compliance with international standards, safety requirements, and best industry practices.
  • Support clients in resolving complex technical and interface issues.

Design Review & Assurance

  • Conduct detailed design reviews across rolling stock systems including mechanical, electrical, propulsion, braking, signalling interfaces, and onboard systems.
  • Ensure that designs meet contractual requirements, performance criteria, and maintainability objectives.
  • Identify technical risks and propose mitigation strategies.

Inspection & Verification

  • Perform factory inspections during manufacturing phases to verify quality, workmanship, and compliance.
  • Conduct site inspections during testing, commissioning, and acceptance stages.
  • Witness factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), and system integration tests.

Project Oversight

  • Act as the client’s representative in dealings with rolling stock manufacturers and system suppliers.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure adherence to agreed schedules and quality standards.
  • Review and validate test results, inspection reports, and certification documents.

Coordination and Reporting

  • Interface with clients, contractors, suppliers.
  • Participate in technical meetings, workshops, and design reviews.
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive technical reports, audit findings, and recommendations.
  • Maintain detailed records of design reviews, inspections, and project progress.
  • Provide regular updates to clients and stakeholders.

About you

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 12–15 years of experience in rolling stock engineering or rail systems.
  • Strong experience in design review, validation, and verification (V&V) processes.
  • Proven track record in manufacturing oversight and on-site testing of rolling stock.
  • Experience working with OEMs, contractors, or consultancy firms in major rail projects.
  • Familiarity with international standards (e.g., EN, IEC, ISO, UIC).

Technical Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of rolling stock systems and interfaces.
  • Understanding of railway safety, certification, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in inspection, audit, and quality assurance processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test procedures.
