Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

The Graduate Technology Engineer will join the Technology Partnerships team within Hardware Power Systems, supporting the development of electromechanical components and modules used across Dyson product categories. This is an opportunity to work on advanced technologies, solve complex engineering challenges, and contribute to the performance of machines that embody Dyson’s standards of engineering, design, and innovation.

Working as part of a cross-functional RDD environment, the role will support the definition, development, verification, and delivery of technologies that meet demanding performance, quality, cost, and timing targets. The role offers early exposure to the pace, rigour, and collaboration required to take technology from concept into production, while learning from experienced engineers and contributing to solutions that have a direct impact on the Dyson user experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the development and delivery of electromechanical technologies, including motors, pumps, and actuators, from concept and prototype stages through to production and part approval.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including Category, Test, Quality, Procurement, Electronics, Compliance & Approval, and Operations, to support technical delivery and issue resolution.
  • Contribute to requirements definition, specification development, and verification planning to support robust product development.
  • Support builds and testing activities, helping to translate engineering intent into validated product performance.
  • Investigate technical issues and product failures using structured problem-solving methods such as root cause analysis, fault tree analysis, and data-driven investigation.
  • Support technical risk assessment activities, including simulation, statistical analysis, and design reviews, to improve product robustness and development confidence.
  • Liaise with suppliers to communicate technical requirements, review development progress, and support delivery to Dyson standards.
  • Communicate project status, technical findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to the Lead Engineer and Technology Manager.
  • Support occasional travel, where required, for supplier engagement, audits, development builds, and cross-site collaboration.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline.
  • A strong academic foundation in engineering fundamentals relevant to electromechanical systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Curious, hands-on, and motivated to solve challenging engineering problems.
  • Able to communicate clearly and work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse issues methodically and propose practical solutions.
  • Able to work collaboratively across teams and build effective working relationships with stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Good planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Hands-on practical skills in prototyping, workshop activities, or engineering test support.
  • Understanding of engineering fundamentals relevant to electromechanical systems, such as electromagnetism, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow.
  • Awareness of statistical and analytical methods used in engineering, such as basic statistics, process capability, and regression analysis.
  • Familiarity with common engineering and productivity tools, such as Microsoft Office.

Exposure to engineering tools or platforms such as Minitab, Reliasoft/Weibull, Teamcenter or other product lifecycle management systems, CAD tools such as Siemens NX, and simulation tools such as ANSYS would be advantageous.
