Job Title:  CLINICAL NURSE (LVN)

 

Department:  SU-MOB

 

FLSA Status: FULL TIME-NON-EXEMPT

Reports to:   MICHELLE BROUSSARD, CLINICAL DIRECTOR

 

Job Summary:  LVN/LPN CLINICAL POD NURSE

 

Required Certifications/Licensure, Education, and Experience:  VALID STATE LPN/LVN LICENSE FROM AN ACCREDITED SCHOOL

  • Physical demands: Full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination; extensive periods of standing and walking; bending, lifting, and carrying; extensive involvement with sick or stressed management, providers, staff, patients, and their families.
  • Sufficient strength and endurance to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day, bending, and twisting.
  • Physical dexterity and psychomotor skills to respond adequately and appropriately to routine and emergent patient care needs.
  • Work environment: Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room setting. Well-lighted and well-ventilated. Environmental hazards may be unpredictable, including exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. 
  • Works in a patient care setting where there is a potential exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, electrical, fire, chemical, physical contact and equipment hazards.
  • Works in close quartered and shared workspace.

 

 

 

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, basic nutrition, behavioral factors, psychosocial/family systems, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results and clinical decision making, alternative treatment modalities.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of health promotion, health risk identification, and patient education principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of community, professional, and educational resources.

Skills   

  • Skill in oral and written communication including interviewing to gather medical histories; providing presentations, consultations, facilitation, and documentation, e.g., writing medical orders, patient education materials, and medical record updates. May require skill in using computerized health information management systems.
  • Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking, and other organizational matters.
  • Skill in modifying methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide appropriate nursing care and in initiating appropriate emergency response and investigatory procedures.

Abilities

  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision on assigned tasks as well as accept direction and real time coaching on given task.
  • Ability to manage high volumes of patients in a short span of time, while dealing with unpredictable issues.
  • Personal flexibility to perform in an ever-changing work environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities while under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with patients, coworkers, and other practice customers.
  • Prepare patients for physician or healthcare provider encounters including auditing charts in accordance with practice standards and policies.
  • Secures and evaluates medical health and development history of the patient.
  • Prepare rooms, obtain vital signs, records patient’s histories, sterilize instruments, prepare equipment or supplies and ensure that stock of supplies is maintained.
  • Prepares and administers medications according to organization policy and procedure.
  • Conduct specified laboratory test including but not limited to phlebotomy and urine analysis.
  • Preform patient follow-up including notifying patients of laboratory results, scheduling referral appointments, maintaining charts and records, and responding to patient telephone calls.
  • Maintain clinical competencies for clinical areas and provides patient care as needed.
  • Scheduling and maintaining of patient appointments across a multitude of services.
  • Maintains the medical record including confidentiality and documentation of all care provided in accordance with organization standards and HIPAA laws
