The Technician Engineer can be based out of Kinder Morgan’s Southern Natural Gas (SNG) Thomaston Compressor Station located at 5276 HWY 19 SOUTH, THOMASTON, GA, 30286.  Other Kinder Morgan locations within the their area of responsibility may also be considered based on the candidate's location.  This is a Monday through Friday position with some on-call responsibilities nights and weekends.    Kinder Morgan offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, two retirement plans, paid holidays, and paid time off.    Kinder Morgan is one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America.

What You Will Do

Primary purpose:

 

This position determines the performance of plant systems by acquiring and analyzing data thru the utilization of specialized test equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The applicant should be proficient in the operations of engine/compressor analysis equipment, vibration equipment; emission analysis equipment, borescope and balance equipment utilized in acquiring equipment data and have developed the skills of translating this data into specific performance issues from which corrective actions are identified. Plant systems include gas compression equipment, control systems, auxiliary support systems and ancillary equipment.

  • Provide corrective actions to resolve operational problems and in addition works directly with location personnel to resolve plant equipment issues.
  • Provide technical assistance in the operations and maintenance of plant equipment and provides training on equipment operations and maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Assist in equipment failure analysis and in the development of standard practices and procedures.
  • Support the identification/prioritization of capital and O&M improvement projects.
  • Individual should possess a thorough understanding of the mechanical operations of engine/compressor equipment and their auxiliary systems.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Conduct GHG data collection, including but not limited to monitoring and recordkeeping in accordance with the GHG Mandatory Reporting rule and Kinder Morgan O&M’s.
  • Conduct direct measurement, meter readings, and maintain associated recordkeeping. Re-measurement and monitoring may be required.
  • Conduct equipment calibrations and QA/QC checks; includes and is not limited to annual calibration/certification and regular maintenance of test equipment and meters.
  • Maintain appropriate stock of calibrated bags and other necessary equipment.
  • Identify and conduct equipment maintenance/repairs on meters, leak detection and measurement equipment, and data collection equipment.
  • Data compilation, organization, recordkeeping and reporting combustion and fugitive activity data and measurement to all appropriate stakeholders (EHS, Operations, etc.).
  • Conduct gas quality sampling and analysis.
  • Adhere to and implement KM processes and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education:

 

Associate Degree in a technical field and/or a minimum of 5 years direct and active work experience with compressors in the natural gas industry may be accepted as a degree substitute.

 

 Position Requirements: Experience / Specific Knowledge:

 

  • Individual should possess a thorough understanding of the mechanical operations of engine/compressor equipment and their auxiliary systems.
  • Applicant must have good analytical skills, computer skills, verbal skills and written skills and be able to work cohesively with operations personnel in the resolution of technical problems.
  • This position requires previous work experience in utilizing specialized test equipment in providing corrective actions to address engine and compressor performance issues.
  • Direct and active work experience in the oil and natural gas industry is preferred, specifically knowledge and experience with natural gas transmission and processing facilities including engines, compressors, etc.
  • Knowledge of GHG regulations (EPA, GHG, MRR, other state regulations, etc.), sufficient to carry out programmatic requirements.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

 

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.

 

 Competencies, Skills, Abilities:

  • Good math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage crews at multiple locations and multiple tasks on a daily basis.
  • Solid communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead towards operational excellence.
  • Strong customer focus in dealing with engineering, field operations, and other internal and external groups.
  • Ability to effectively organize, plan, prioritize, document, and complete work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Must be comfortable working with remote supervision.
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize and adhere to established work schedules, focus attention on details, and follow work rules.
  • Ability to perform the required and expected duties with little or no direct supervision.
  • Preferable living within a 100 mile radius of the Macon, Ga. area, but may consider other locations on a case by case basis.
  • Must be able to speak and understand English
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.

 

 Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to withstand extreme conditions; will work outside in all environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to frequently: enter confined spaces; and climb to and work from elevated platforms, ladders and walkways.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions, and 50 pounds from floor to waist.
  • Must be able to see, hear, walk and talk effectively.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Required to carry a company-provided cell phone/pager, and be available to respond during working hours, and non-working hours as needed.
  • Travel is required and anticipated to be up to 60%, will include out-of-town nights and weekend travel.
