Join our team at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and create impactful marketing materials that inspire guests, raise awareness, and foster a deeper connection between people and wildlife! 

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is seeking a fixed term, full-time Seasonal Graphic Designer who will plays a vital role in creating compelling and engaging designs and campaigns to promote our brand, events, programs, communication strategies and conservation initiatives. As a member of the Marketing team, this role collaborates cross-functionally across the organization within a multi-brand environment, developing creative materials that attract and engage our target audiences.

Contract:

  • Start Date: July 2026
  • End Date: March 2027

What you will do:

Design and Artwork Production: 

  • Efficient, time-sensitive artwork production of visually appealing and informative marketing assets, including integrated campaigns, development collateral, proposal templates, and PowerPoint presentations. 
  • Develop visually appealing designs for on-park collateral, including signage, custom educational and experiential pieces, large format prints and digital executions. 
  • Ensure all designs are aligned with the zoo's brand guidelines, maintaining a consistent and cohesive visual identity across all platforms.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team and internal stakeholders to execute design requests that effectively communicate key messages and engage target audiences.
  • Apply web accessibility standards to digital design practice.
  • Apply creative design techniques to present complex data and information in a visually engaging manner.
  • Prepare design files for print production, ensuring accurate color management, and reviewing proofs for accuracy and grammar.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of printing processes, materials, and finishes to achieve high-quality print results.

Brand Management:

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo's multi-brand identity, ensuring it is accurately reflected in all visual assets.
  • Contribute to the evolution and improvement of the brand's visual language and design elements.
  • Uphold brand consistency and integrity across all marketing materials and touchpoints.
  • Translate corporate values and brand identity into designed marketing and communication assets.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What you will bring: 

  • Graduate of a recognized graphic design or visual communication program (degree or diploma).
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a graphic design role. 
  • Experience in creating digital campaigns for Meta, Google and other channels.
  • Experience of pre-press and production for four colour process printing and digital printing, large format printing and knowledge of print substrates.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, all Microsoft office applications.
  • Ability to collaborate within department and interdepartmentally on projects.
  • Comfort with working on multiple, time sensitive projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with project management software (i.e. Asana) and Sharepoint.

  • On-site mobility required.

  • Managing multiple concurrent projects

The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
