Job Description
Position Summary
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Hematology & Oncology, is in search of an experienced Researcher Senior to join their team. The Lu laboratory studies how epigenetic mechanisms drive cancer development and therapeutic response, with a particular focus on blood cancers such as acute myeloid leukemia. Using molecular, cellular, genomic, and computational approaches, the lab investigates the molecular basis of oncogenic driver mutations, identifies new targets for epigenetic therapy, and develops novel epigenome editing tools to study gene regulation in normal and malignant cells. This position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment and to gain training in advanced genetic and genomic technologies.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Senior, you will have expanded responsibilities, overseeing complex or multiple research projects and providing strategic direction. This professional-level role involves mentoring junior researchers, managing project budgets, and ensuring the integrity and quality of research outcomes. Your expertise will be critical in guiding experimental design, data interpretation, and contributing to high-impact publications. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct independent and collaborative research projects in cancer epigenetics and leukemia biology.
Design, perform, and troubleshoot molecular, cellular, and genomic experiments.
Use and help develop genetic and epigenomic approaches, including CRISPR/Cas9, genome-wide screening, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C, and eRRBS.
Analyze and interpret experimental and sequencing data.
Contribute to studies on the molecular mechanisms of cancer driver mutations and therapeutic resistance.
Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant-related work, and presentation of research findings.
Mentor junior trainees or assist in training laboratory personnel, as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range: $ 60,835- $ 98,855
