Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Yellow Iron)
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Yellow Iron) to join our team supporting our North Carolina landfill operations. This role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of heavy equipment.
The position will split time between:
- Shotwell Landfill – Knightdale, NC
- Tri-Corners Landfill – Liberty, NC
Key Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and scheduled preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems
- Identify issues and complete or recommend appropriate repair solutions to ensure equipment reliability
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records
- Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Perform physically demanding work, including lifting, pushing, and pulling objects up to 100 lbs
- Work in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather, equipment hazards, and landfill conditions
- Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods
Qualifications
To successfully perform this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Experience & Education
- Minimum 2+ years of experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of heavy equipment systems and maintenance
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Certifications (Preferred)
- ASE Diesel Certification or equivalent technical certification

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating heavy equipment (bulldozers, loaders, excavators, etc.)
- Familiarity with landfill or construction environments
