Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

To apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis in accordance with policy and procedure, practicing radiation safety methods at all time. To select appropriate technical factors limiting the need for re-exposure and in accordance with equipment operating guidelines.

 

To apply patient care, communicating the procedure performed, lessening apprehension and in accordance with the hospital’s Patent’s Rights policies. Mammography skills to include: the ability to perform screening, diagnostic, coned down spot compression, magnification, implant displaced and specimen views, the ability to modify care according to age, and the ability to assist the physician with cyst aspirations, needle localization and stereotactic breast biopsies.

Job Responsibilities:

 

Mammography

  1. Performs and documents patient and family education activities including assessing, performing and documenting
  2. Provides age specific care for adult and geriatric population.
  3. Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural and religious diversity
  4. Positions patient properly to visualize optimum breast tissue
  5. Accurately identifies images and includes patient history
  6. Proficiently operates Mammography and DEXA equipment
  7. Understands and performs QC tests if assigned by the supervisor
  8. Follows protocol for notifying patients of mammography results
  9. Records the receipt and return of all outside mammography images to original facility
  10. Assists physicians, and other technologists with procedures
  11. Maintains compliance with Patient Safety Goals
  12. Is in compliance with all radiation safety standards
  13. Documents all interventions and completes accurately and in a timely manner all exam information

  1. Uses proper positioning and technical factors to obtain high quality images
  2. Accurately identifies images and includes patient history
  3. Correlates accurately contrast media and dosage to exam
  4. Proficiently operates radiographic equipment
  5. Assists physicians, and other technologists with procedures
  6. Is in compliance with all radiation safety standards
  7. Documents and completes accurately and in a timely manner all exam information
  8. Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to adult and geriatric populations.

 

Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

 

Education Level: Associate’s degree

 

Certification/Licensure: Formal radiologic technology training from an ARRT recognized accredited program.

Must be ARRT registered in Mammography and IDNS licensed unrestricted

 

Current BLS: Required
