The Role:
The Petroleum Equipment Sales Representative is responsible for developing new business, managing existing accounts, and providing technical sales support for fuel‑storage, dispensing, and monitoring equipment. This role combines relationship‑building, solution design, and industry expertise to help customers select compliant, cost‑effective petroleum equipment systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development & Account Management
- Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities with contractors, fuel distributors, fleet operators, municipalities, and commercial/industrial clients.
- Maintain and grow relationships with existing customers through regular communication and site visits.
- Prepare and deliver sales presentations, proposals, and equipment quotes.
- Track opportunities, pipeline activity, and customer interactions in CRM systems.
Technical Sales & System Design
- Recommend equipment solutions such as ASTs/USTs, dispensers, submersible pumps, monitoring systems, filtration, and fuel‑management software.
- Interpret site plans, specifications, and bid documents to prepare accurate takeoffs and proposals.
- Work with engineering, project managers, and vendors to develop system layouts and equipment packages.
- Provide product expertise on UL‑listed tanks, piping systems, electrical requirements, and regulatory compliance.
Customer Support & Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers throughout the sales cycle.
- Coordinate with internal teams for ordering, delivery scheduling, and project handoff.
- Assist customers with troubleshooting equipment selections, compatibility, and application questions.
- Attend jobsite meetings, pre‑construction meetings, and equipment startups when needed.
Market & Product Knowledge
- Stay current on petroleum equipment technologies, manufacturer offerings, and industry trends.
- Maintain working knowledge of NFPA 30/30A, PEI/RP standards, EPA regulations, and state/local fuel‑system requirements.
- Represent the company at trade shows, vendor trainings, and industry events.
Qualifications:
- Experience in petroleum equipment, industrial sales, construction sales, or related technical field.
- Strong understanding of fuel‑storage and dispensing systems (AST/UST, piping, pumps, controls).
- Ability to read blueprints, site plans, and technical specifications.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship‑building skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to customer sites.
Preferred experience:
- Prior experience with manufacturers such as Veeder‑Root, Franklin Fueling, OPW, Morrison Bros., or comparable brands.
- Knowledge of permitting processes and regulatory compliance.
- CRM proficiency and strong organizational skills.
Performance Metrics:
- Sales revenue and gross‑margin targets.
- New account acquisition.
- Proposal accuracy and turnaround time.
- Customer satisfaction and repeat business.
- Market share growth within assigned territory.
Working Conditions:
- Mix of office work, field visits, and jobsite walkthroughs.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor environments, construction sites, and fuel‑system equipment.
