Position Summary:

As a Dual Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Therapist, you will provide comprehensive behavioral health services to individuals experiencing mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders. You will work collaboratively with clients to assess behavioral health needs, develop individualized treatment plans, and implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions that support recovery, stability, and overall wellness. 

This position provides integrated treatment services that address both mental health and substance use concerns through individual, group, and family psychotherapy. The role requires strong clinical assessment skills, knowledge of co-occurring disorders, crisis intervention abilities, and familiarity with evidence-based practices for both mental health and addiction treatment populations. The therapist must demonstrate empathy, professionalism, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary treatment teams and community providers. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy services for clients experiencing mental health and/or substance use disorders under clinical supervision that meets Client Care Hours (CCH) and quality requirements set by the Agency and that is within the limits of services permitted by license and scope of practice.
  2. Provides diagnostic and substance use assessments under clinical supervision that meet CCH and quality requirements established by the Agency.
  3. Meets or exceeds standards pertaining to services provided. 
  4. A. Accumulates the required number of billable hours of clinically allocated time based on Agency standards for position and profession. 
  5. B. Therapist-canceled appointment rate will not exceed 10%.
  6. Meets or exceeds standards pertaining to assessments and documentation. 
  7. A. Provides only those services authorized by Utilization Management and provides services within the authorized frequency and duration of services. Requests additional services when initial authorization has been met. 
  8. B. Written assessment of an individual’s mental health symptoms, substance use history, psychosocial functioning, strengths, needs, risk factors, and resources, including recommendations for treatment, completed within 24 hours of the assessment. 
  9. C. Assessment and other documentation will provide sufficient clinical reasoning for diagnoses, including mental health and substance use disorders, and the type, frequency, and duration of services provided. 
  10. D. Individualized Service Plan and Discharge Criteria with measurable goals and objectives are developed collaboratively with the client and signed at initiation of services and at each update. 
  11. E. Assessment, Individualized Service Plan, Progress Notes, and other documentation clearly identify client participation in services by obtaining client and parent/guardian signatures (when clinically appropriate). 
  12. F. Completes progress notes at the end of each session and submits them within 24 hours of completion. 
  13. G. Notifies consumer and referral source (when applicable) prior to completion of discharge summary and documents this notification within 30 days of last contact.
  14. Provides integrated treatment interventions utilizing evidence-based practices for mental health and substance use disorders, including relapse prevention, motivational interviewing, CBT, trauma-informed care, and psychoeducation.
  15. Develops and maintains quality, accurate clinical charts for all clients served.
  16. Develops and maintains positive collaboration with other social service agencies, medical providers, recovery support systems, courts, probation departments, and community partners serving clients. Consults as needed.
  17. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning and coordination of care for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
  18. Has no unexcused absences from assigned clinical and administrative committee meetings and training.
  19. Maintains license or registration appropriate to profession and job requirements, including appropriate continuing education at all times of employment.
  20. Maintains agency-required annual training including client rights and grievances, safety training, infection control, cultural competency, trauma-informed care, SUD treatment requirements, and others as required by Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, CARF, and TCN.
  21. Remains free from citations by other providers or clients for unethical practice and meets professional standards for own discipline.
  22. Participates in weekly supervision with supervisor.
  23. Other clinical duties as assigned.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree with appropriate licensure (LSW/CDCA) or master’s degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or related behavioral health field.
  • Experience: One year of experience in mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment services preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure Required: LPCC, LPCC-S, LPC, LISW, LSW, LCDC II, LCDC III, LICDC, Counselor Trainee, Social Work Trainee, Psychologist, or other qualifying behavioral health licensure recognized in the State of Ohio.
  • Other: Meets all standards and regulations of the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board and/or Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, as applicable. Demonstrated competencies in working with individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
