Job Description
Job Summary:
The Production Department Material Handler is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate delivery of raw materials, components, and finished goods to and from production areas. This includes reviewing the daily/weekly production schedule, staging materials at the correct production cells in the order they are scheduled, and maintaining inventory organization to support continuous production flow. The Material Handler plays a key role in supporting efficient operations and minimizing downtime in the production process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review Production Schedule:
- Daily review of the production schedule and work orders.
- Coordinate with Production Supervisors and Planners to confirm priorities and sequence of jobs.
- Material Staging & Delivery:
- Stage materials and components at the appropriate production cells in the exact order as scheduled prior to the previous job completion.
- Deliver kits or parts as needed to support scheduled production activities.
- Ensure all materials are properly labeled and organized to prevent delays or errors.
- Inventory Management:
- Track and report shortages or discrepancies in material inventory.
- Assist with cycle counts and reconciliation of materials in staging and production areas.
- Material Handling:
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, or other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload materials from trucks and storage locations.
- Maintain a clean and organized staging and storage area.
- Communication & Coordination:
- Communicate with purchasing, warehouse, and production teams to ensure timely availability of materials.
- Provide feedback on material flow issues or potential improvements.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years of material handling or warehouse experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret production schedules, work orders, and material lists.
- Experience with inventory systems or ERP software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Epicor) is a plus.
- Forklift certification preferred (or willingness to become certified).
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
Work Environment:
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and occasional temperature variations.
- Requires use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as needed.
