Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

 

Position Summary:

 

Provide intervention through a variety of service delivery models under the direction of a supervising Speech Language Pathologist. Services are provided in a variety of school settings, ranging from preschool to high school.

Essential Duties:

 
  • Provides educationally necessary intervention in the area of communication skill development, focusing on articulation, language, fluency, voice skills, and programming AAC devices under the general supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist.

  • Develops and implements activities and materials for teaching and practice skills to address IEP goals for a student.

  • Communicates with educational staff, related service staff, parents, caretakers, and other professionals concerned with a student's educational program and progress.

  • Develops and maintains appropriate therapy records, i.e., documentation, schedules, progress notes, IEP, monthly reports, etc.

  • Services are provided in a variety of school settings, ranging from preschool to high school.

  • May travel to various schools in order to provide speech therapy services to students on caseload within the district.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):

 
  • Completion of an Associate’s degree SLP-A program or Bachelor’s degree and completion of SLP-A modules from an accredited college or university

  • Current license awarded by the Oklahoma Board of Examiners for Speech Pathology and Audiology and Supervision required

  • Successfully completed the academic requirements and clinical experience of an SLP-A program

  • Experience working with disabled children

 

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities):

 

*Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio.  Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted.

 

Physical/Mental Requirements:   

 
  • Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on a computer.  

  • Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties. 

  • Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone. 

  • Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds.  

  • Sitting for prolonged periods of time.

  • May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, or after regular school hours under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines.

 

 Work Environment:  

 
  • Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.

  • Will require time in office, as well as external meeting locations with community partners or schools throughout the OKC metro area.

  • May require participation in meetings and activities outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays.  

  • May be required to work overtime and weekends and holidays.

  • Able to bend and stoop, lift 25lbs, stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.

 

Reports To:        OESS Supervisor of Related Service     

 

FSLA Status:        Non-exempt           

 

Compensation:     Classified Support Schedule 156, Step 5+

 

Work Days:           181 days per year; 8 hours per day
