Job Description

Job Requirements

The Delivery Driver will be responsible for operating a fully-loaded straight box truck and manually unloading, using a hand truck on metal truck ramps, various products (meats, produce, frozen foods, groceries, dry goods, and paper products) to customer drop-off sites while providing excellent customer service. All functions must be completed in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. May also be called upon to perform Backhaul duties.

Main office - located in Hammond


It will be the responsibility of the delivery driver to:

  • Check route paperwork prior to leaving the yard
  • Ensure that he/she has the correct trailer & tractor
  • Sign in to the onboard computer with route no & id
  • Drive Safely & follow all DOT rules & regulations
  • Deliver all products error-free & in a timely manner
  • Collect any monies due as indicated by the invoice
  • Complete all necessary paperwork
  • Upon return to yard empty trailer (consolidate at domiciles)
  • Separate, sort & account for all invoices
  • Place all money envelopes in the safe or route bag
  • Verify & sign off on pick up slips
  • Customer Service
  • Any other driver duties that may be assigned

Responsibilities

Skill, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of route delivery.
  • Able to read & understand an invoice.
  • Safe driving habits & driving record & acceptable MVR, able to lift 50+ pounds on a continuous basis.
  • Customer Service attitude.

Physical Body Positions:

  • Sitting
  • Walking
  • Standing
  • Bending

Mental:

  • Requires essential communication and math skills. Must be able to comprehend industry terms. Computer literate, able to operate the onboard computer system

Working environment:

  • Outside in all weather conditions.
  • Tractor cab & inside trailer & customer premises including coolers & freezers

Experience: Minimum one-year driving experience with Class B and/or Class A (preferred) License




Work Experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of commercial driving experience
  • Foodservice distribution industry experience
  • Customer service-related work experience

Job Type: Full-time

Trucking home time:

Home weekly

Experience:

  • CDL Driving: 1 year (Required)

License/Certification:

  • Class A or B (Required)

Work Location: On the road
