JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for providing bookkeeping and recordkeeping support for live racing operations, including race-day financial documentation and regulatory compliance related to thoroughbred racing. This is a seasonal position for the summer race meet at Colonial Downs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with bookkeeping and financial documentation related to live racing operations, including race-day transactions.
- Maintains accurate race-day records, logs, and reports in accordance with Company policies and applicable racing regulations.
- Assists with reconciliation of reports, payouts, and related documentation following live racing events.
- Supports preparation and organization of required financial records for review by Racing Operations leadership and regulatory agencies.
- Ensures race-day financial documentation is complete, accurate, and properly filed.
- Works closely with Racing Operations and other departments to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of racing-related activity.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive wagering, financial, and operational information.
- Attends and participates in race-day briefings and operational meetings as required and reports to assigned work locations on time.
- Ensures compliance with Company policies, internal controls, and state racing commission requirements.
- Resolves problems that are within the position's scope of authority and recommends courses of action to resolve problems that are beyond the scope of authority to the position’s supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, live racing environment.
- Basic knowledge of bookkeeping or cash-handling principles.
- Ability to read, understand, and complete detailed reports and logs.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and use of standard office software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One (1) year of experience in bookkeeping, cash handling, or racing/mutuel operations preferred.
- Experience in a live racing or regulated gaming environment is a plus.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid racing license as required by the applicable state racing commission.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
- The Team Member will be required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
- While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- The Team Member may occasionally be required to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
- The Team Member may be required to work long hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays during live racing meets.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud during live racing events.
- The work environment may include office areas as well as live racing operational spaces.
