Role Overview
As the Early Learning Readiness (ELR) site coordinator, you will support the early education of children ages 0-5 as well as their caregiver while they are learning to be their child’s first teacher. 


Early Learning Readiness

  • ELR is a free program for caregivers and children ages 0-5 that focuses on preparing child for school while empowering caregivers to be their child’s first and best teacher.
  • ELR operates across multiple locations, with facilitators leading sessions in a structured, play-based environment.
  • ELR empowers local communities and supports childhood social-emotional and education. The program increases the health of the commonwealth. 
  • Key partnerships include local libraries, community centers, and Backside Learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth execution of ELR classes across designated sites.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement, and feedback from families.
  • Oversee curriculum implementation and ensure it aligns with best practices in early childhood education.
  • Ensure each site is clean, organized, and well maintained.
  • Administer both a pre (first month of ELR) and post survey (second to last week of ELR sessions) for ELR families.
  • Provide clear communication of all program updates and changes to ELR families in a timely manner. 
  • Ensure all new staff attend the All About Leadership training within the 1st 60 days of hire date.
  • Staff are required to wear a Y tee and nametag. You are allowed to wear any type of pants or shorts of an appropriate length, but they must be black or brown with no holes. Clothing must be neat and presentable, free of tears, holds, stains, etc.

Monthly & Weekly Expectations 

  • Meet with Early Learning Readiness Director weekly to discuss program details and updates.
  • Purchase site materials from Amazon (if needed).
  • Purchase snacks, water, and paper plates (if needed).
  • Ensure that ASQs are completed before deadlines. 

Safety

  • Check sites weekly for any broken equipment, toys, or choking hazards you may encounter. Remove them and immediately report this to the Early Learning Readiness Director.
  • As mandatory reporters under federal guidelines, when there is a suspicion of child abuse, the staff to whom it has been evident will immediately report to it to Child Protective Services (800) 422-4453.
  • Medications will not be dispensed to a child is in our care at any time, including but not limited to pills, liquids, sprays, and ointments. 

Staff Management & Training 

  • Manage and support ELR facilitators.
  • Ensure facilitators attend required trainings and are equipped with effective teaching and engagement strategies.
  • Address staff concerns and provide ongoing mentorship.
  • Intentionally thank staff for their hard work and dedication to the program weekly.
  • Meet with ELR Facilitators once a month to provide support and share program updates.

Budget and Funding Management 

  • Oversee the site budget, ensuring funds are used effectively.
  • Track expenses related to site operations.
  • Seek additional funding opportunities through grants and partnerships.
  • Community Engagement & Partnerships Build relationships with local schools and literacy organizations.
  • Represent the YMCA at meetings related to early childhood education.
  • Work with Early Learning Readiness Director and social media to promote program success stories.

Event Planning & Family Engagement

  • Coordinate with Early Learning Readiness Director to plan family engagement events.
  • Ensure families feel welcomed and supported throughout their participation.
  • Encourage families to engage in additional YMCA programs and services. 

Data Collection 

  • Track participant progress, attendance, and outcomes. 
  • Ensure timely submission of reports to Early Learning Readiness Director
  • Utilize feedback to adapt and improve program offerings. 
  • Always call children by name, and ask if you do not know or remember.
  • Make every attempt to recognize caregiver/child family units.
  • Always engage with the children in activities, vigorous active play and communications or in job duties when no children are present.
  • Present yourself in a welcoming and approachable manner by smiling and getting down to the child’s level to communicate.
  • Maintain strong communication with caregivers.
  • Use positive reinforcement to redirect children and be encouraging of their actions.
  • Lead with the following in mind:
    • A hopeful and optimistic view of future outcomes. 
    • A determined commitment to on-going learning – activity improvement through small experiments.
