Overview

Medical Behavioral Hospital of Indianapolis  is currently searching for a Plant Operations Manager for our psychiatric hospital in Greenwood, IN. The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing all aspects associated with the plant operations of the facility. Oversees the maintenance, housekeeping and the staff assigned to these departments. This position will direct the plant operations, maintenance, repair, mechanical systems and equipment for the facility. Oversees all aspects of the Safety Program and Environment of Care for the facility. Responsibility includes hands on with assisting with repairs as needed.

Responsibilities

  • This is a hands-on position requiring direct involvement in maintenance and repairs.
  • Lead staff to ensure efficiency, safety, and plant reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and hospital regulations.
  • Serve as Safety Director, holding quarterly safety committee meetings.
  • Manage construction, renovation, and daily maintenance projects.
  • Oversee facility openings, upgrades, and cleaning initiatives.
  • Monitor projects for compliance with plans, building, and fire codes.
  • Assess building systems, prepare cost evaluations, and manage procurement.
  • Ensure medical equipment is clean and ready for use.
  • Plan staff coverage, set priorities, and provide guidance on work tasks.
  • Maintain and manage inventory, equipment repairs, and replacements.
  • Keep work areas and patient environments clean and organized.
  • Complete and maintain required regulatory documentation.
  • Support other departments and facilities as needed.
  • Conduct life safety inspections, including fire drills and equipment tests.
  • Maintain facilities per NFPA, CMS, Joint Commission, and other standards.
  • Adhere to confidentiality, ethical standards, and patient privacy requirements.

Qualifications

This is a hands-on position requiring direct involvement in maintenance and repairs.

Education: Bachelor's degree preferred; High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in EOC/LS, preferably in a hospital setting, with some supervisory or team leadership experience.

Must have knowledge of an ability to perform drywall repairs, light plumbing, and light electrical work.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills required.

Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, typically acquired through technical high school education or additional technical training. Construction experience is a plus.

Valid driver's license verified upon hire.

Basic Life Support (BLS) and Handle with Care (HWC) required and obtained during orientation.

Typing/word processing skills.

Spreadsheet and PowerPoint skills.

Excellent communication skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated management and organizational skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Knowledge and awareness of CMS, Joint Commission, State Department of Health Department and Life Safety Code regulations.

Analytical skills necessary in order to make calculations for installation and repair of equipment.

Computer IT skills preferred.
