JOB TITLE: Supervisor, Environmental Services
DEPARTMENT: Environmental Services
REPORTS TO: Manager, Environmental Services
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Exempt
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the guidance of the Manager, Environmental Services the Supervisor, Environmental Services is responsible for the daily operations and supervision of the Environmental Services team to provide a safe, clean and comfortable environment for all visitors and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Recruit, mentor, develop and successfully manage a team to achieve the strategic objectives and the present and future needs of the department.
- Create a collaborative work environment by using a performance support process including goal setting, feedback and development.
- Ensure staff compliance relative to all federal, state, and local regulations and codes including those for Right-To-Know, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) usage, correct product labeling and Personal Protection Equipment.
- Establish work protocols and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) including those for communication, products and equipment.
- Maintain a supply inventory system which creates efficiency within the established department’s web-based procurement (Expense Watch) system.
- Evaluate new products and equipment and make recommendations to the department Director.
- Develop floor maintenance programs and perform daily rounds to ensure assignments are being completed as expected with desired outcomes. Conduct daily “walk through” inspections to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Manage work orders and other service requests from internal customers.
- Manage work schedules and payroll for Environmental Services staff.
- Foster, promote, and support Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) through the DIA values, active listening, embracing difference, and engaging with empathy to promote a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent with three (3) years of housekeeping and hospitality experience in a museum, hotel, and/or healthcare facility required. One (1) year of supervisory experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must possess leadership skills and the ability to lead a team to meet strategic goals supporting the museum strategy and vision.
- Attention to detail.
- Creative problem solving, decision making, planning and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Accounting and financial management.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- People-person personality necessary to demonstrate friendly, courteous, professional customer service behaviors and provide service recovery in an accommodating manner consistently.
- Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours for special events (If needed).
- Must be proficient in latest version of Office 365.
- Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Team
- Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange accurate information using various methods including in-person, telephone and email. Occasional lifting up to 30lbs, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping and repetitive motion. Frequent noise and occasional inclement weather conditions while working on loading dock. Ability to travel throughout the entire museum on a daily basis independently.
