Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute (MSKI) – Mercy is a high-performing orthopedic practice located on the Mercy campus on Randolph Road in Charlotte, North Carolina. The practice is comprised of board-certified orthopedic surgeons and a collaborative team of Advanced Practice Providers dedicated to delivering exceptional musculoskeletal care. As part of the Atrium Health MSKI network, the team works alongside orthopedic subspecialists, non-operative sports medicine physicians, physiatrists, rehabilitation specialists, and care coordinators to provide comprehensive treatment across the continuum of care.
This role is dedicated to supporting the Total Joint Replacement Program, caring for patients undergoing hip and knee replacement procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Position Overview
This position supports orthopedic total joint surgeons and includes a blend of outpatient clinic, inpatient rounding, and operating room responsibilities. The APP serves as an integral member of the orthopedic team, providing comprehensive care throughout the surgical journey, from pre-operative evaluation through post-operative recovery.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in outpatient clinic, inpatient, and operating room settings
- Assist with pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient management
- Serve as first assistant in the operating room as appropriate
- Conduct patient evaluations, post-operative follow-up visits, and care coordination
- Manage inpatient consultations, rounding, and discharge planning
- Collaborate closely with orthopedic surgeons, nursing staff, rehabilitation teams, and care coordinators
- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and treatment plans
- Maintain high standards of quality, safety, and patient experience
- Participate in shared call coverage, including weekends and holidays
Candidate Qualifications
- Prior orthopedic, surgical, or total joint experience preferred
- Active North Carolina licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
- Must possess or be eligible for DEA licensure
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required
- NCCPA certification (PA) or national board certification (NP) required
- Strong clinical, communication, and collaborative skills
