
Buyer/Planner
Job Description
The production planner/buyer plays a crucial part in the creation of ship and component-level parts for
LightPath products. Utilizing their expertise in analyzing VISUAL Material Planning data, they will craft and
execute meticulous production schedules. Responsibilities will extend to the effective management of work
orders and purchase orders, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of our manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities:
• Schedules Promise Date for customer orders by analyzing VISUAL Material Planning time based
data, inventory availability, work order & purchase order activity and other pertinent resource data.
• Oversight of weekly planning product lines, product types or production processes as assigned.
Typically, part scope is PMO, witness samples, pre-preform production planning, pre-form production
planning, diamond turning and optical coating
• Analyze up to moderately complex production specifications
• and process capacity data in order to properly plan for production needs. processes, production
throughput, tools, fixtures, staffing. Etc.
• Able to work independently to plans, organize, coordinate and control the maintenance of work orders
in order to balance supply and demand.
• Plans, organizes, coordinates and controls the maintenance of Purchase Orders for parts that have
been established by the Engineering and are materials directly supported by BOM demand. Scope of
buying can be materials, tools, fixtures, etc. Processes purchase requisitions and Submits Purchase
Orders to the Planning Manager for Executive approval.
• Reviews open work orders and purchase orders to ensure all are on track to meet target. Evaluates and
fixes any issues with cost, quantity, specifications or any other critical factor to adhering to customer
requirements.
• Analyzes and responds to Request For Lead Time (RFLT) inquiries.
• Responds to complete Returned Material Authorization (RMA) by working with Quality to analyze
the RMA and action as necessary to close out the RMA.
• Collaborates with department supervisors to determine status of assigned projects, process yields,
process throughputs, staffing levels, tooling, etc.
• Communicates with appropriate departments for any delays and concerns.
• Develops and edits schedules to ensure product is delivered on time to the customer.
• Expedites tasks that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions. Raises
attention to supply chain manager if concerns are not addressed in a timely manner.
• Prepares various reports and lists as required.

Special Authority:
• Stop any nonconforming process(es) which may affect safety, poor quality or customer satisfaction
• Report any halted nonconforming process(es) to production manager, quality department, and/or
process engineer.
Knowledge, ability and skills:
• Ability to work independently with little to no supervision
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
• Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Must be able to solve basic math problems
• Regularly required to sit, talk and hear
• Frequently required to walk or smell
• Occasional standing, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling,
crouching, or crawling
• Occasional exposure to the following: work near moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic
chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and risk of radiation.
• Must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds
• Able to work with moderate level of noise
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Visual ERP
• Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English.
Minimum previous experience/qualification:
• B.S. Degree, and two (2) years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of
experience and education
• Must be authorized to work and reside in the US and must be eligible for any required authorizations
from the U.S. Government to confirm with but not limited to U.S. export control regulations (ITAR),
but not limited to U.S. export (ITAR) guidelines.
