Job Purpose

 
  • The Senior Product Owner / SVP Payments & Remittance is responsible for driving the development, implementation, and growth of new use cases and initiatives for Payments & Remittance —including SWIFT, Quick Remit, Local transfers, Aani and Bill payments solutions—within the bank’s Payment ecosystem. 

  • The role is pivotal in creating new revenue streams, improving operational efficiency, and reducing costs by leveraging emerging digital technologies. The incumbent will serve as a visionary leader, translating market trends and technological advancements into actionable business initiatives, and will report directly to the Head of Payments and Consumer Lending.

  • Geographically, the role manages these businesses not only in the UAE but also Egypt, Pakistan and new markets (potentially Oman, KSA) that the bank will venture into for retail banking.

  • Accountable for full revenue, profitability and risk across the Payments in UAE, Egypt and Pakistan.

  • Leading 40 plus staff members globally (direct and outsourced)

  • Business Case Development: Identify, evaluate, and prioritize new digital payments use cases that align with the bank’s strategic objectives. Lead the creation of robust business cases to support investment and resource allocation.

  • Squad Leadership: Establish and lead squads dedicated to the delivery of prioritized Payments & Remittance initiatives. Define squad objectives, ensure collaborative execution, and monitor progress against KPIs.

  • Manage product teams pertaining to Payments & Remittance and Bill Payments.

  • Support other upcoming geographies where Mashreq is expanding its reach eg: Pakistan, Egypt etc.

  • Regulatory and Compliance Alignment: Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure all Payments & Remittance products and processes adhere to regulatory standards and risk frameworks.

  • Technology Enablement: Partner with technology teams to design and implement scalable solutions, focusing on operational efficiency and security.

  • Cross-Border Payments: Lead initiatives to enhance solutions for cross-border money transfers, with a strong emphasis on SWIFT and alternative payment rails.

  • Internal: Close collaboration with compliance, treasury, CXCG, technology, and operations teams to drive project delivery and support ongoing product enhancements.

  • External: Engage with strategic partners, fintechs, regulators, and industry consortia to ensure best practices and foster innovation in Payments & Remittance.

  • Manage a broad partner ecosystem including payment networks, processors, vendors, fintechs service partners aligned to bank policy and regulatory expectations.

Problem Solving

 
  • The role demands a deep understanding of Payments & Remittance, Bill Payments and digital payment flows. The incumbent must navigate complex regulatory environments, identify and mitigate operational risks, and devise solutions for money transfer, cross-border and SWIFT payment challenges, ensuring seamless integration of new technologies.

  • Ability to create new business models and new revenue streams for the bank aligned to strategy and risk appetite.

  • Lead Payments & Remittance initiatives from ideation through launch and lifecycle management.
  • Approve business cases and resource allocation for prioritized use cases.
  • Direct squad activities and make tactical decisions to overcome project obstacles.
  • Represent the bank in external forums and regulatory discussions related to Payments & Remittance.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field.

  • Minimum 20 years of proven experience in Payments & Remittance, Product implementation within financial services.

  • Experience in digital transformation and scaling digital products/journeys. 

  • Solid understanding of digital payment flows and Payments & Remittance product management.

  • Experience in cross-border money transfer and SWIFT payments.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop business cases and lead multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Strong analytical, strategic, and leadership skills.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Familiarity with bank’s operations and local marketplace.
