Job Description
The Barista is responsible for preparing high-quality beverages and fresh, ready-made items while creating a friendly and welcoming experience. This role ensures quality, cleanliness, food safety, and a welcoming environment for residents, patients, guests, and staff.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is an hourly non-exempt position, with expected hours to include: days and some holidays.
Essential Functions and Duties

Prepare and serve coffee, espresso drinks, teas, smoothies, and other beverages according to established recipes and standards.

Provide friendly, respectful, and compassionate service to residents, patients, guests, and staff.

Operate coffee equipment (espresso machines, grinders, blenders) safely and efficiently.

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the café area in accordance with health and safety standards.

Restock supplies, monitor inventory levels, and notify supervisors of shortages.

Accurately handle cash, credit transactions, and POS systems.

Follow all food safety, infection control, and sanitation procedures.

Assist with light food preparation, including pastries, sandwiches, and snacks as permitted.

Foster a welcoming, social environment that supports engagement and community interaction.

Participate in special events or themed café days as requested.

Perform assigned cleaning duties in accordance with established schedules.

Adhere to defined safety codes and infection control procedures.

Assist with receiving and properly storing food and supplies.

Report supply and equipment needs according to established procedures.

Comply with all Federal, State, and facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, including Culinary Services Department and account-specific requirements.

Understand and follow the facility’s fire and disaster plans during drills and emergencies.

Perform other departmental duties or special assignments as directed by management.

General Responsibility as Required for Position

Responsible for acting in conformance with all facility and departmental policies and procedures including those relating to Human Resources, Code of Ethics and Business Conduct, Health and Safety regulations, Compliance requirements, Patient Rights, Confidentiality, and HIPAA. Responsible for acting in conformance with accrediting agency standards.

Attends department meetings as required.

Demonstrates accountability to accept responsibility for personal/professional growth and any required certification/licenses, if applicable.

Completes mandatory training and competencies annually.
