Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and highly organized Nurse to join our substance use disorder (SUD) treatment team. In this role, you will work directly alongside our Nurse Practitioner (NP) and medical assistant (MA) to provide comprehensive medical care and medication management for patients in various stages of recovery. The primary focus is on patient safety, including organization and updating of Medication Administration Records (MARS), withdrawal management, and administration of certain injectable mental health and MAT medications.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Collaboration with the Nurse Practitioner
- Assist the NP during medical evaluations and follow-up visits.
- Document clinical findings and treatment plans during rounds as directed by the NP.
- Prepare patients for examinations, including checking vital signs and reviewing current medication lists.
- Act as a liaison between the NP and the multi-disciplinary clinical team (counselors, case managers).
- Work in collaboration with MA regarding MARS and new orders by NP
Medication Management & MAT Support
- Administer and monitor Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) such as Buprenorphine, Naltrexone, or Vivitrol under NP supervision.
- Educate patients on medication side effects, adherence, and the physiological aspects of recovery.
- Coordinate pharmacy orders and prior authorizations for specialized addiction medications.
Patient Assessment & Monitoring
- Conduct regular withdrawal screenings using standardized tools such as the COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) and CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol).
- Monitor patients for signs of over-sedation or respiratory distress during induction phases.
Administration & Compliance
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) and Medication Administration Records (MARs) in compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
- Ensure all medical orders from the NP are executed promptly and documented correctly.
- Assist in the maintenance of medical supplies and the cleanliness of the clinical area.
- Other duties as assigned
- Licensure: Current, unrestricted [RN/LPN] license in the state of WI.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2years of nursing experience; prior experience in behavioral health, SUD treatment, or detox settings is highly preferred.
- Certifications: Current BLS/ACLS certification.
- Language: Bilingual (Spanish/English) required
- Skills: * Understanding of the disease model of addiction.
- Proficiency with EHR systems.
- Strong de-escalation and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries in a high-stress environment.
WORK CONDITIONS
Business Environment, general office, local travel as requested, with occasional standing and walking, going up and down stairs.
